Does anybody here (like Topics II maybe) have any suggestions for which tires would make for good drifting?

Qualities of a good tire:
HARD Compound for durability
Moderate to OK grip level (Don't need anything crazy grippy)
Dirt Cheap!

Also, anybody in the central texas area willing to let me borrow some rims? I know several of you out there that still have their factory rims sitting around, I'm willing to pay to borrow them for just a weekend! Please PM me if you are interested in making a few bucks instead of letting those wheels just sit there...of course I wouldn't use / chew up your tires, unless you wanted me to!!!

You generally dont want too hard of a compound for drift (bfg kdw)... to hard of a tire will take too long to heat up (generally by the time you are done a run) and until they heat up they will be super slick. Also, if you run them for an extended period of time, the tires will chunk badly.

Make sure you dont run too much tire pressure though. that will also screw up your traction. i generally run about 28psi. front and rear.

If you have a softer style tire (bfg kd, which is what i run) you will get excellant grip right off the bat, and it will last for the whole run. however they do wear a lil faster and you will burn them up more.

Other than that... its up to you. of course you can drift on any style tire. its just a matter of what tire works before for you.

 

Cool dude, thanks for the suggestion! I found some tires that got my interest that seem pretty good, A rating all the way around with a 300 tread wear. Forgot the speed rating, but they should hold up OK...best part is that they are 50 bucks each! I'll give those a shot first before dumping a lot of money into burning tires.

 

What kind of tires did you find? Are they stock size for the factory 18s? Cheapest I can find for my stock rear is $120. I have a performance Z with stock 18s.

 

I found some discontinued tires in a 245/45/17 made by a child company of Michilen called FISK. They are great tires and have a ZR+? (forgot the third letter) rating which makes them good up to 186mph. 50 bucks a pop, I couldnt turn it down. They only let me buy 8 of them though, I wanted to get at least 12.

 

Any of you Z guys use es100s or falken st115?
