Default Ontario Modified Car Insurance

Hey,

I keep hearing more and more stories of people in Ontario with modified cars having their insurance canceled.

I recently asked my insurance company about modified cars and they said any performance modifications are not allowed and I would have to switch insurnace companies and most likely pay double the premiums because of the modifications. Because of this, I have not done any performance modifications.

I have replaced the stereo and they have no problem with this. I have also replaced the wheels and my deductable went from $500 to $1000.

I am wondering what most people here do with their modified cars and insurance. Do you tell your insurance company or do you not tell them and
risk having your insurance canceled?

** i know about solocanada but it is not available yet

Give them a call if your current provider gives you any trouble....

Unforetunetly, I dont think there is much you can do. Ive tried registering my car as a show car. Ive tried companys that deal strictly with show cars, but the car muct be over 20 years old to fit that class.

I made a small package of what my car looks like with my modifications (i left out the performance ones) and sent it to my insurance company. i also sent in a note agreeing that I will not receive any money if there is damagae to any of the parts I have put on the car. That seems to be working for me right now. Did i mention i also left the car under my mothers name
