I am moving to Montreal soon and am considering my next car. How much more practical is the 350Z in the winter with TC and VDC in snow and ice as it is RWD?

(I suppose it has to be safer than an S2000, which I am also considering again as I have one here in London - in fact it's sunny out there now ... time to drop the roof! )

I am no longer from mtl! Considering the heavy snowfall and the inclement winter climate in mtl, I'd suggest a different vehicle than a 350Z or the S2K if it is going to be your primary and only means of transportation.

If you can use the public transit (mtl's subway is one of the best in the world) or can have a second winter car for commuting in the winter months (ie. all 11 of them), then I don't see a problem owning either car as a fun summer vehicle.

I didn't changed the tires this winter and kept the Potenza, which were a total disaster.

Without excelent winter tire (suggest the nokian, they're the best) this car is not practical even in 1 cm of snow.

Thank you. I will have to give this some more thought as I was intending to have just one car.

Just bought a black 2004 Performance coupe last week. Delivery is in late-April only.....unfortunately.

I also live on the south shore of Montreal and own a 2003 Black on black 350z 6 speed, so does my friend Chantal, she owns a 2003 350z black/black. I drove it this winter with some Blizzak LM-22 and those tires are a waste of money. I was told only later that the car was too heavy for those tires and that they are NOT recommended.

PrimalZ,

I have owned a Miata for 9 years and drove it during the first winter after hearing a so-called expert on TV claiming that just putting four good winter tires on it would do the trick. NOT TRUE!!! Bought an old Huyndai for December-March period and I feel much better and secure. But the best part of it is that yearly first March drive in the summer car. What a feeling!!! But from now on it will be in a Z.

May see you on the road!

heh You'll see me around for sure, mostly at Napierville heh, really have to take it for a spin to see if it's faster than my late bmw or Integra GSR, but all in good fun of course!

Minh don't you have the white one that was at SCP4? i'm a good friend of Ben Woo and Kim who were the organizers, we'll bump into each other for sure

Hi Iceman,

I'm from Montreal...but I don't have a 350Z. I was seriously considering one last year, but went with the Mitsu Lancer Evolution 8 instead. Great car!

Will we be seeing you at any of our track events this summer? We are hosting events at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Mecaglisse, and Calabogie this season. Even thought we're the BMW Club of Quebec, you don't need a BMW to join. Hell, I'm on the executive board and I drive the Evo!

Hello i am from montreal too, but i drive a G coupe, as for driving in winter, the G and the Z are not the most practical cars in the winter, if you happen to have brembo brakes, you're in for a treate you need to buy 18 inch winter tires which are pretty expensive, and the normal tires are worthless in the snow, i spun out going down hill on cote des neiges and nearly killed my self when it snowed a couple of days ago, it was nothing like 1 or 2 cm but i had to be towed back home because i couldn't drive, other than that, the car is a blast to drive on some nice roads, especially in tmr and the west ...

Kayaalp i thought the evo 8 wasn't allowed to be sold in canada because it doesn't meet the frontal crash standerds because of the bumber design, i haven't seen any on the roads what so ever...
