My attempt at the transparent hood shot...

As usual, constructive criticisms regarding photography (exposure, angles, composition etc) are more than welcome!

the simple answer is to use the tripod, take one shot with the hood down, then one with the hood up (at the exact same settings), then photoshop the two of them together (i only kept the engine part of the hood up shot). and viola!

haha, i don't know what that means :P It's Nikon D80 with the kit lens (18-135mm 3.2-5.6fd). It's got a UV filter on it, that's pretty much it.

Great pics... two questions: I just picked up the vertex full kit and 1) How did you mount your rear license plate? 2) What did you use to mount your front plate? Thanks.

thanks for the props! I dunno if you're going to like my answers for those questions...I basicaly had to custom make two "brackets" for the front and rear.

for the rear, you have three options.

1) Drill the plate so you can mount the plate onto the little frp "bar". This is actually what the bodyshop i dropped it off to do (without telling me), which is why you can see the two little holes on my rear plate.

2) Make a plate that mounts to the little "bar" on the FRP. then drill extra holes on the plate and mount the plate onto that. You'll see the metal "bracket" in this solution, which is why i didn't go for it.

3) I actually mounted a black piece of solid plastic that's about a 1/2" thick. It's mounted onto the hole with the screw brace (?) that bodyshop put in, then mounted the plate right on top of the black plastic. This way the plate covers the plastic piece.

for the front,

You simply need an L bracket. I didn't mind drilling a hole underneath the top of main opening, so the l bracket is mounted there. Then it just sticks out and the plate is mounted on that. You can see in the pic above i used two of them, one for each hole on the plate. YOu could just fab up one wide enough to mount both holes if you like.

If you need anymore details, just let me know, and i'll be happy to help.

Holy **** noodle,
I just came across your thread. That camera owns mine. OWNS. These pictures are fantastic. Ok, I don't want to make it sound like it's all the camera, I'm sure your skill comes into play as well. But nonetheless, the results are very nice.
And I love kev's mad scientist photography critiquing skills. I need to pick up some more tips from you guys, and maybe a DSLR as well. I'll pass my Canon point and shoot SD1000 on to my little brother.

Thats such a hot car. I checked out the pricing for those rims because once I saw your photos, I wanted to get them for my car...will cost over $5 grand for rims and rubber, and 4 months of waiting time. Crazy!
