Break in period.
Just wondering... how many people here have been following the Nissan recommended break-in period? I've read all the posts from the general forum before, but I'm looking for a real world count from people in my locale.
Personally, I've opted for a middle of the pack approach to breaking in my Z. Driving it lightly most of the time, but on the odd occasion when the engine is thoroughly warmed up, bring her up to about 5+ rpms. This is my first new car so I don't have any history to support this decision; it was purely based on the 3 major posts in the general forum about this topic.
To recap; there were 2 (conflicting) schools of thought.
1) Baby her according to the manual, and you'll end up with a rough driving Z, with little "*****" and lower performance than a Z that wasn't babied.
2) Ride her rough, and you'll end up with a "faster" (hearsay, but there was some evidence to support this) but one that may start sipping oil after the 5 year powertrain warranty.
So my decision was to drive her like I would normally... lightly for the most part, but on the odd day when the engine is warmed up, ride her up to 5/6k rpms. Part of my decision was based on the fact that my brother owns an Integra that was purchased as a test car from the dealer with about 150 km's on it. It's a 91, and it's still running strong at close to 200,000 km's. There's no way those first 150km's were "gentle"
What's everyone's take on this?

so seeing as no one replied to my first post for FIVE YEARS and my Z is now sold... i have to say that my break-in strategy worked and my car drove beautifully
