The Useless East Canada thread!
Grand Bend is nice and close to me... Like 35 -40 minutes?
TMP is a little over 2 hours.
As for the others? Too far. Haven't been to them.

A bunch of us camped out at SMP one time. It was cool except for the mosquito's they were un imaginable. It was craziness..
You can rent a circuit for like a few thou a day. Or half that for an evening.
We should rent it for an evening and then camp out after. Or camp then drive but thats $$$.
DDT sucks... MIR is too expensive.. Shannonville is great but far away... TMP is great for me about 1.5 hrs away.... Never been to Grand bend but I'll giver a shot.

I ONCE did SMP in a day (drove out, raced, came home). Never again, its way too much driving.
I hear you on the bugs. I camped out in July and as soon as the sun went down, they came out in full force. Spent the next night in the bates motel down the street, and to put it gently, I would have rather slept outside. What a **** hole.
I think SMP has open lapping, and there are a few groups that rent it out (touge type guys).

I like SMP a lot too, but for me the 3hr drive is TOO far (TMP being less than an hour, MIR being less than 2).
Ontario Time Attack will be running SMP on June 9/10th on pro and long tracks this year. Ill be there, and its a pretty good crowd (no naked ladies, but some pretty experienced guys). You also get an instructor in the morning of both days and much more track time (3 timed runs vs 1)

I hear ya! Ordered my kit earlier this week: RPF1 in a 10.5" +15 and four RS3s in 285/35/18. Can't wait to feel this compared to my last set up.
Weight reduction? Nah...more power and more traction! ;-)
Bring on spring!

centripetal force = (mass X velocity^2) / radius
so M = FR/V^2
Force the tires can handle and radius of corner are constant.
M = 1/V^2
A 10% reduction in mass would increase cornering speed ~ 5.4 %?
cool.
Soo bench racing time. If my best time was 84.72 seconds at TMP. Length? 2350 metres.
avergage speed = 27.74 m/s or 99.86 km/h
Lets say next time car will be 120 pounds lighter than last time. Which would be an approximate 3.9% reduction. Cornering speed increases 1.5% and that is carried onto the straights. A 1.5% improvement nets 1:23.45.
And better brakes, swaybars, and lsd. each netting a 5 second improvement.
So predicted PB becomes 1:08.45 track record.

Probably closer to 1:10 if you want to account for the increase in wind (especially with the 340km/h you will be doing down the straight)
The formula1200 guys I used to hang around a lot would say that 10lbs = 1 tenth around mosport. Granted that is a very light (700lb), low power (50hp) car on a longer track (they brake once in a lap). But I think it holds some weight (hehe). I don't think 100lbs = 1second is unreasonable, give or take. I don't have data to back it up though. I guess easiest way to check for sure would be to add 100lbs to a consistent driver.
I didn't check your math, but you have shorter braking distances and faster acceleration with reduced weight, on top of the corner entry/exit speeds.
In any case, it's nice motivation to think that 10lbs is worth a tenth as you painstakingly rip every crumb out of the car...

Mind you I went to the track and ran the same car with a seat and passenger and ran 1:26.46.
I went back no seat and no passenger. roughly 200 pounds off.
1:24.72.
So could hold some water. But I've only been to a track 6 times total, so I improved a lot one visit to the next

PS don't spend too much on Merc mods and you will have enough money for an '04 in no time.
Set of wheels and tires on merc = $6000.
2003 Nissan 350Z = $13 000
