Default 3rd gear grind, what dealership to deal with in GTA for warranty?

I have the infamous 3rd gear grind in my 6mt G35c. It happens about 30% of the time, and is very annoying when it does occur. I figure I need a new tranny.

My car is a 2003, it has 81k km on it now. I figure it should be covered by the 110k/6yr power train warranty, right?

What dealerships have you guys been dealing with in the GTA for easy warranty repairs? I really do not want to go through a fight with dealerships to get something that I rightfully think should be covered...

Additonally I have noticed some rust bubbling on the bottom of the passenger door, the rust seems to be starting from inside the foor...how can I get this covered too?

I am the second owner of this car.

Thanks

what part of the city are you in?

I had an ok, experience with St.Clair nissan..
The service manager Joe is a fairly knowledgeable individual, just avoid dealing with peter, speak directly with Joe.

Not sure about the rusting, sorry man.

It doesn't matter where you go, they will all **** you over in the end. They will give you a new tranny, but they will tell you the clutch and flywheel should be replaced because it will chatter later on. They will not cover the clutch and flywheel and claim they are wear items until the warranty, therefore not covered.

1) Get them to admit why the clutch and flywheel need to be replaced. They will tell you because the new tranny will cause chatter with the old clutch and flywheel.

If they still don't budge and give you that crap about it wear items not being covered:

2) Show them the section of the warranty which states:
The following items are covered under warranty if replacement is required due to a warrantable defect...Clutch Components.

If they still don't budge:

3) Contact Nissan on their warranty complains number

If that doesn't work:

4) There is another Nissan number for people who aren't satisfied with the last step. Nissan will bring in an arbitrator to settle the issue.

GET IT FIXED NOW! It may stop completely and then they will tell you we can't hear anything, go fly a kite. I had mine stop completely for 2 months before returning again a couple weeks before my warranty expired.

Only 30% of the time? Sounds like it just began... If it's anything like mine, it'll get worse... much worse.

Iam pretty sure if its noted prior to your warranty expires they still need to cover it as it was a complaint with the warranty time frame. If that fails contact Nissan Canada.

I am in Brampton.
From reading both here, and g35driver.com, it seems as if some folks had great experiences with certain dealerships, whiles others got completely screwed by the same dealerships...i just suppose it is who you are and how they deal with you.

I know one of the service managers at 401 Dixie Nissan, I got my motor in my old maxima replaced under warranty but it was a long fight before it happened (6 months from the initial visit to actual replacement), and I really don't want to go through that again.

Thanks for the provided steps Bender.

XuperXero, it doesn't happen all the time, only occasionally and when it does, it seems like it happens many more times around that initial grind...then goes away for a while. My shifting pattern doesn't change, and I have been driving manual trans cars for years before this one, so I doubt it is my driving style.

Next step will be to visit with a dealership ASAP.

It's not your driving style. I had mine start off of cold starts. It would do it the first couple shifts into 3rd then it would stop. This went on for maybe 2 months. Eventually it stopped completely. A month or 2 later, it came back and would not stop period.

You won't have a problem finding a dealership to replace your transmission. It's when they tell you that you'll need to replace clutch and flywheel at an additional $2000+ that is a problem. They want to replace it because it may chatter later on with the new transmission, but they seem to think that this is your problem to fix. They wont fix it because they are "wear items" and are never under warranty. They won't tell you that wear item ARE under warranty if they need to be replaced because of warrantable defect.

If you are satisfied with just receiving your transmission. It's just a 3 day process. If you feel you deserve the clutch and flywheel, you'll be slinging mud for awhile because no one will cave right off the bat.
