Default Buying wheels from forum member in US - requirements for border

Like the title says, I'm buying wheels from another forum member in the states while I'm down there and driving back. What do I need at the border? Bill of sale? How can I get that for a private sale? If not, what do I pay at the border and how do they determine that?

Thanks in advance.

doh. misread message. Yeah, just ask the guy for name, number, address, price and items. Also get a signature and you're good. at the border they'll check its book value vs. purchase price and charge taxes on the higher amount.

Just to clarify, by wheels I mean tires and rims.

So how can I get a receipt if it's a private sale? Have the guy write a note? And do I just pay taxes at the border (14%) ?

put the new rims on, make your old rims look old and dirty, toss them in the trunk and say you got these for free

I went to grab my new rim/tire 3 weeks ago in the US side , I had my passenger seat removed in the first place , 3 stock tires fit there and 1 in the trunk , Btw I have a roadster so imagine how it was , nothing was scratched though.

What I said at the border was , I went in the US to meet a guy to sell those stock rim/tire and he didn't show up , obviously i had to come back with them. they just asked some questions and it was fine.

Get the info from the buyer, as posted by Brady above. To make it easier, print out a receipt, but you really only need a hand written receipt.
Make sure you both sign it and have the price written down as well. (make some thing up.. say you paid $250 or something)
I would say that you are going to a swap meet or flea market. Most of the time, these places will provide hand written receipts, so they won't be to suspicious.

IMO, its not worth the risk of pissing off customs by trying to save a couple $$$. Plus, once you get booked for trying to avoid paying customs, you will be tagged and will always get the "glove".
