Default E46 M3 vs B7 S4 vs 335i ~ suggestions?

Hey guys,

I'm about to put my Z up for sale once I pick up my next car. I'm looking for something more luxurious as well as sporty, that I can still modify.

I'm wondering if you guys have any knowledge about any of these 3 cars, or what you would pick.
m3
s4
335i

Ever since I sat in my friend's 08 335i, I have a complete different opinion about BMWs. His car is not only really quick and torquey, but it also has so much luxury.

Another friend of mine own's an E46 M3, with just a chip he's pushing alot of power, without having to give up luxury, again.

S4, no idea what its all about but my wife likes it.

What would you get?

i would probably choose a 335i. it does have impressive performance figures out of the box and the potential for more if you chip it.

the only issue i would have with a 335i is that it's driven by douche-bags. i have never come across one 335i owner that wasn't driving like a moron thinking he was the sh*t with something to prove.

^ lol
you mean aggressive driving?
I have noticed that even on the bmw forums, some of the people tend to be stuck-up or feel that they're superior.
But damn, sat in my friend's 335 and it just wasn't the same anymore once I got back into my Z. However, other 2, M3 and S4 are also very nice. I like the S4 the least but my wife loves it...

335i is the best option out of the three, the performance you get for the price is amazing, esp used.

BMW drivers are *******s... How do I know? *cough*

Keep in mind, after driving my parents' two bmw. I'm starting to feel hatred for it. They're ALL OPEN DIFF, including 335i. Only the bmw's that carry the M badge does have LSD.

S4 is quite nice... especially the new one with the LED rice headlights. But honestly for what you're looking for, I'd probably say S4

id say 335, with a chip, you can get, correct me if im wrong... 450~hp. Same with 135 and so on, it goes in the twinturbo 3.5 engine family. chip costs 250~. imo bang for the buck. (although car costs an arm + z )

Of the 3 choices, I will pick the 335i.

As most other people have said, chip it and you've got a car with style, performance, and practicallity.

However, the only thing I don't like about the BMW 335i is that I see too many moms driving them on the road, especially in Richmond Hill. Why spend 60K on something that so many other people also drives?

For the same price, get a Lotus Elise and I guarantee it will turn ten times as more heads on the road.

So if I don't need the rear seats, I still like the Z better. That's just me. The 335i just doesn't stand out as much as the Z.

The car is great, but too many on the road.

Either BMW are nice the S4 is a very boring car. It's to front heavy and nothing like the RS4.

I still like the M3 best. Everyone who has a 335i always tells you how it's just as good as the E92 M3 and it's not. Both are nice cars. I love the engine in the E46 M3 it's more exciting then the 3.0l turbo. As others have mentioned the ability to chip a turbo car can mean healthy hp increases.

if you're just after power, a 335 will do. The e46 M3 is undoubtedly the finer drive though. It's nearly impossible to add power to it, its at the limit of its efficiency stock, like a GT3. It does come with an M differential, and is quite a bit lighter than the 335. So its up to you. I don't really like the looks of the 335, so I'd pick the m3 and save a bundle.

If your going to get a porsche, get a mr2 spyder which looks like a porsche with rear mount engine and superior handling like the ae86

I have driven all of them and raced all of them with the Z (on the track of course) and the M is more of a sports car than the other two combined. The 335 is for yuppies, however its ability to tune is down right sickening. New dont do it, you want the warranty. S4's make me sick. Just please dont buy the S4. They are pigish. E46 M3 is my dream car....but then again my N/A Z can out run one without a hassle at all....I want it for the luxury. Buy it if you can handle the beating by me whenever we come in contact.

I don't know how much of an epic fail producing some of the best drivers cars in the world for the past half century is.

I like having an LSD as well and it is an option on some Porsche and standard on others. Dynamically LSD can cause understeer so although it will make a car quicker at the track it can make it less nimble.

All that said I definitely prefer a LSD just not too aggressive of one.
