Touchless car wash vs Winter

I don't ever take my Z through an automated wash. It's stored for the winter.
But I am concerned about keeping my 328xi and Murano clean over the winter and shiney down the road.
I bought a season pass to the automated touchless car wash. I've been taking each through alternating days.
When weighing hardcore road salt and sand vs high pressure washing and considering the goal of long term paint and trim preservation what frequency of washing should be undertaken?
Should washing be limited to times when sand and salt have crystalized into an abomination?
Or is routine washing with the harsh detergents prophylactically the superior alternative?
Hand washing is rendered impossible by temperature considerations, and regular professional detailing is contraindicated by a poor cost to benefit ratio.

I don't really like using those automatic car washes....
I take my Z to Square One Mall, there's a guy that Valet Parks and gives me a Hand wash for $15. So I go shop for an hour, and it's good to go by the time i'm done

Never really liked touchless car washs...
To really clean your car you need to touch it. During the winter months I wash my SUV once a week at a local Spray and Wash. I never use the foaming brush as this may contain grit. I bring my own wash mitt that way I'm sure it's clean.
Sounds like a good deal considering that a wash at a touchless car wash is about 8-10 bucks. Going to the car wash 9 out 11 days seems to be boarding on OCD
Once a week is fine.

$16 per wash if you dont have the pass.
I have the pass too.
Nice driving around in a clean car in the winter.
Clean adds HP.
Can do without the long waits tho.
Seems like everyone and their grandmother has this pass.
