Well...I snapped one of the hood studs...I read around that some have either drilled a hole and put in a new bolt, or had a welder weld in a new bolt...
So two questions:
1) is it ok to drive with one of the 4 hood bolts broken? 120-130 km/hr would likely be the fastest I'd hit on the highway on any given day, so doubt I'd be going fast enough but still thought I'd ask.
2) welder or local mechanic to do the job? Anyone recommend a shop in Mississauga area that can do this? I'm guessing it is a fairly simple job, but I do my own oil changes and haven't looked for a go-to shop since moving out to Mississauga last year.

If you center punch the stud drill through it with a bit roughly 1/2 dia and work your way up you should be able to get it out without messing up the threads. The trick is to drill that first hole center and square.

hey Sleepy79, yea I'm going to take off the hood this weekend and try drilling through the stud. The only thing is that half of it snapped off, so I'm borrowing a buddy's mini torch and will try to heat it, then cut it off clean. From there I'll try drilling a small hole through the centre and move my way up in size. Went to Lowe's and the closest size I could find was 5/16, but the threading didn't match, so I'm going to check out Home Depot for metric sizes. If they don't have any that match, I'll just grab a 5/16 bolt and nut.
