Default Montreal people, need some help

I'm going to be up there for the Canadian GP in June, but having never been there (nor having the capacity to speak French), I need a little info.

Where exactly is the race held? Are there any bad areas that I should stay away from (or areas that my Z might be a target)? Recommendations on places to see / eat / drink while I'm there?

Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I am so jealous.....Ya baby, this is my area of expertise. YOu are talking about my home town...Race is on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve named after the late F-1 Ferrari driver. The circuit is also part of the Montreal Casino, which you will see while you are on the grounds. The entire site was built for Expo Montreal back in 1967. The first world's fair. Many of the buildings from the fair still syand, but are used for other things, and for events. The Montreal Casino was the French Pavillion, and you will also see a giant sphere which was the American Pavillion, but is now used for weddings, receptions, and part of the Montreal Botanical Gardens if I am not mistaken.

Bad areas? You're talking about Canada. Uh, nope. The areas where the seperatist french Canadians are, is nowhere near the site, and they won't give a rats *** anyway. We don't have a high crime percentage. As a woman, living there 38 years of my life, I can walk downtown St-Catherine street, at 4:00 am alone, and not worry. The entire weekend revolves around Crescent street, De La Montagne (Mountain street), the Main (St-Laurent blvd.), Peel street, and St-Catherine street, which runs for miles. St-Catherine street is the main street running West to East. All the other street other than St-Laurent are within walking distances of each other. A block or 3. St-Laurent is a little further. There you will find trendy brownosers if you are into that scene. Corner of Sherbrooke street. If you are there, go to a restaurant called Mezze. Ask for Nick, tell him Jen sent you. The subway is very safe, quick and reliable. Underground shopping, eating, movies, you name it, we've got it. Weather in June should be great, and you will see many families with their kids, and grand prix weekend is always father's day weekend.

Go to www.montrealcam.com You can get views of the downtown core of where a lot of action will be happening. On Cresent street, a few days to a week before the race is F-1 frenzy. Ferraris, F-1 cars, Lambs everywhere, and the street is closed off to traffic. Dancing in the streets, music, dancers.....debauchery at it's best! I MISS HOME!!!!!!!!!

Um, your Z should not be a target. If anything, people will be admiring it, as they are so much more expensive at home, it's like owning a porsche. Z's are a fortune back home. But, there are losers everywhere. I suggest leaving it at the hotel parking lot, and walking if you're close enough for restos and shopping. If you want to take it, park in small paying parking lots with an attendant. Crescent street & De la Montagne below St-Catherine are many little lots with attendants. But get there early depending on what day it is, and what kind of festivities are going on. As for the day of the race. Don't take your car. You will be butt deep in traffic. Take the subway. You can't get lost. Almost the entire city takes the subway. Just ask anyone for directions to the subway, and get off at Ile St-Helene. But don't go by me, I think they were renaming the station. Just follow the massive crowds. There is a tourist info store, just carries free stuff, maps, tourist guides, etc. On the corner of Peel and St-Catherine, you will see an HMV store (CD's), travel south down Peel. The Tourist store is behind the HMV store, but on a back street. Ask anyone, they will tell you.

Places to eat, drink are all on Crescent, De La Montagne if you wanna stay with the F-1 frenzy and crowd. Otherwise there is St-Laurent as I mentioned. Not my thing. Not into phony people. Can't really recommend places to eat, as you can find anything in Montreal. In a city of 3 million people, there are 187 different ethnic origins. So looking for different food is not a problem. Every other eatery is of a different country. Things to see??? The Olympic Stadium, Montreal Botanical Gardens, Insectarium, Biodome, Mount-Royal city scape view, wish I was going to show you myself. You'll never see it all. You'll have to go back....but check out the website I left you. And if you need hotel info, PM me. I have a detailed list with prices, types of hotels, and extras they offer. But rememebr, Grand Prix weekend, the prices will be higher. Book now.....hope you're see enough. If not, I can PM you more. Just let me know what you need and want......enjoy! It's awesome. Been almost every year since I was a kid.....
Jen

Wow, I could go on forever. Just search the web by typing in Montreal. You'll find many sites with much to see.
