Default Customizing Stillen SC

Well, in last few months I learned quite a bit on this SC, and lately I've come to know that the kit actually uses Magnusson Products 62 model supercharger. This model is designed for engines from 2.0L to 4.0L capacity (we're at the upper end of its capacity). Side-effect of this is that boosting above 8psi becomes a problem.

I've been thinking on customizing my SC setup, as it'll come out cheaper than ripping the kit out and stuffing in a TT setup. This, of course, is a long term plan for me, but some of you out there may have the funds to do these things now, so here's the basic idea:

* get forged rods and pistons (9.5CR)
* upgrade injectors to, say, 440cc
* rip out current kit's 7th injector, MP62 blower, and ECU controller unit
* place in e-Manage to custom-tune fuel delivery (to 6 440cc injectors) and timing (tune to 93 octane, and not 91 like current setup), based on boost and RPM and A/F
* place in S-ported MP90 blower (similar dimensions to MP62, more CFM air flow)
* custom-manufacture thicker intercooler core and lower intercooler plate (better air delivery to intake manifold)
* custom-manufacture a pulley to deliver about 10psi of boost
* [OPT] install water-spray chiller for the front intercooler (its Houston, I kinda need it)

Kit should allow much better air flow (with larger blower), better cooling capacity (thicker intercooler, opt. water spray), better boost (10psi pulley, 9.5CR pistons), and better fine-tune (e-Manage, opt. Profec-E01).

I should be well over 400whp with that setup (and, oh-boy-torque!), which is way more then I aimed for, but it'll be fun and fun is fun . Now, all I need is $$$ ...

Anyone foresee any problems with this setup?

The bolts will not line up to your existing Stillen intake manifold/intercooler. The bolts are 3' apart on the M62, and 3.35' apart in the M90. I always thought the Stillen kit uses Eaton M90 SC, if that's the case, then the MP90 might fit. But if you have to custom fabricate the intake manifold/intercooler, it might be cheaper to sell the Stillen kit and get the Vortech or ProCharger tuner kit.

Of course, I'll check the price for customizing intercooler and pulley, but I don't think they'll be that bad.

As far as bolt pattern, I talked to the guy who'd be doing this, we'd weld the existing bolt holes, then drill new ones. We'd also expand the hole to intake manifold, to accomodate larger blower. Some metal work, but doable, I think. We know of a shop that can customize a thicker intercooler, as well as a custom pulley, so I'll be checking on pricing for this all, once I close on the timeline.

If this turns out to be too expensive, I'll rip out and sell Stillen kit, then put turbo in, on a similarly built motor. It all comes down to $$$.

Per my info, Stillen kit uses Eaton M62.

Good ideas, and probably why I will live with burning oil til I can do it right! I might keep the 7th injector, emanage can work with it, and I think it probably has a slight cooling effect on the intake charge.

I did a little research, since I know so little about CFM and what would M90 do in place of m62, with everything else being the same. So, here's a bit of physics trivia and info:

M62 = 62 cubic inches of air per rotation = 1.016L
M90 = 90 cubic inches of air per rotation = 1.475L

At 6600RPM, NA 3.5L engine goes through 6600*3.5/2 = 11550 liters per minute.

At 7psi of boost, we are at (14.7+7)/14.7 = 1.4762 times NA pressure in manifold.

So, at 7psi boost at redline, our VQ35DE engine consumes 11550*1.4762 = 17050 liters per minute (sea level).

At the same time, to make this airflow, M62 supercharger rotors are rotating at 17050/1.016 = 16781.6 rotations per minute.

We now replace M62 SC with M90.

M90 blower, with rotors rotating at 16781.6 rotations per minute (we kept same pulleys, so same crank-to-SC ratio applies), puts through 16781.6*1.475 = 24752.9 liters per minute at redline RPM (compare that to M62's 17050 L/m).

This means that M90 is now generating 24752.9/11550 = 2.1431 times the NA manifold pressure....

...which, in turn is (14.7*2.1431)-14.7 = 16.8psi of boost (sea level).

Now you know why I'll need built motor and less aggressive pulley setup. You can also see that boost possibilities with M90 are far greater for same RPMs.

However, both M62 and M90 are limited in their maximum rotational speed and we don't want to exceed that. In fact, Stillen already exceeded it with current application, so to speak: when running at redline, M62 is spinning at 17050rpm, whereas it is spec'ed at 14000 maximum sustained rpm. So, if you continuously run your engine above 5419rpm, you're liable to cause harm . Luckily, we only run it like that for short period of time... with M90, we can setup a less aggressive pulley ratio and run the blower at much lower RPM and still achieve same boost.

Well, after typing all this, I'm still not 100% sure we get M62 with Stillen kit, so I'm gonna ask them directly. Will keep you posted.
