Question Characterisics of a good dyno shop?

The one i have been going to does the pulls, gives you the printout, rings the register, and that's it, without offering any assistance with interpretation or recommendations; they don't even do sae correction unless you ask them. Is this sop? Doesn't seem like it to me. What are the characteristics of a good dyno shop?

They should at least also give you a copy of the dyno run on disk...I learned this the hard way...I got a print out and lost it when I went to the shop to get another copy they had erased the file and I couldn't get the original dyno again...so at least make sure they save the data for you...so I know how you feel

IMO, I actually don't have a prob with what that shop has been doing for you SINCE it may be a hint that they have no tuning ability. Sucks for you, but not as bad as them blowing your engine. Nothing is worse than having a shop buy a dyno and have them advertise that they can tune. Tuning isn't easy, nor should it be attempted by a mere "tech" that thinks he's good.

My definition of a good tuning shop:

1. In business for over two years
2. Haven't been accountable for 95% of the blown engines (this will be hard to determine if its he said, she said type ordeal)
3. You've heard about them from several other enthusiasts
4. They understand the current issues in regards to tuning your specific vehicle
5. They have the tools / instruments to determine what could be causing your situation (if problems arise)
6. Certifications / Education credits from "tuning" school(s)
7. They're not afraid to say, "no," especially if they're not comfortable putting their reputation or your car on the line for an aggressive tune.

I'm sure I missed a few, but hey, its all heresay anyways . . . good luck.
