Default unorthodox pulley

i am putting on my new crank pulley, and ran into a problem. The stock pulley wont come off, and i dont want to break some thing by ranking it off with all my might. has anyone done this mod before, that can give me some pointers. Thanks

Are you using a breaker bar?

put the car in 6th gear and have someone stand on the brakes with all their might. Then take a floor jack handle and place it over the breaker bar to get more leverage and pull it real hard. Make sure you use a hardened socket, like for an air tool, as I cracked a standard sears craftsman socket trying to get that nut off. You won't hurt the car.

the stock pulley wont come off:
Use a pulley puller. Make sure you pull from the center lip of the pulley. Not the one closest to the block. I cant remember if the crank bolt has a dimple or not for easy removal

stock pulley bolt wont come off:
Remove radiator and use an airgun. OR stick breaker bar on ground . Quickly turn the engine by blipping the starter very quickly. This will loosen the bolt.

under no circumstances should you try to engage the starter with a breaker bar connected to the crank bolt...that makes zero sense

if all else fails, use an impact gun.....but there is no need, a breaker bar and the car in 5th or 6th and a strong set of hands is all thats needed

really? tell that to my dad who's been a mechanic for over 40 years. It's an old trick. Same principle as an impact wrench.

Did I mention he just finished a 2jz rebuild?

A high impact wrench with a range of 250 lbs. torque should pop that baby. IMO specially if the injine is warmed up.

for a mechanic with 40 years experience maybe it works...for an individual doing this at his house it's a recipe for a trip to the hospital

How?
Lay the breaker bar on the ground. You sit in your car and blip the starter. Have someone use a stick to make sure the socket stays on the bolt. Positive pressure is applied towards the ground.

what direction does the motor rotate, so that bar doesnt come flyin off lol? that is the stuff that the mechanic will think about not the DIY'er lol. its cool but I would rather use the impact wrench or better yet get someone with some skills do do it..... like your dad.

also you should remove the sparkplug wires so the car doesnt start after you "blip" the starter.

later,
Scott

actually, just need to pull the fuel pump fuse in the battery compartment, we don't have spark plug wires.
