Sentry65 - did you get the e-mail saying the Elise is going up in price! BASE is now 44,000 I think. I'm ordering mine through Houston and because of the exchange right changing the MSRP on our imported Lotus is going up!....

Hehe, still can't wait...you'll get yours about 2 or 3 months before me....road trip

Exactly.

Why do you need to rev that high? Do the Nism cams even make power up that high?

Until proven it is just ridiculous

sentry, why did they change the location of the US spec exhaust on the lotus?! It looks way badder on the Euro spec version. The centered exhuast on the US lotus looks kind of cheesy. I'm partially interested in the lotus also. But i'll prolyl wait until the next model year. The only reservatin I have about the lotus is that it's so tiny. I't sgot about the same wheelbase as the Miata, but it's 6 inches shorter. It's over a foot shorter than the Z!!

I mean the highest NA possible on the VQ35 it seems like is maybe 400ish theoretical with 11.5 compression and 4.3 stroker etc

seems like the VQ30 would be the more cost effective way to go??

I'm still intrigued by the skyline's engine going in the Z...
Its more cost effective than the stroker idea. The stroker will make loads more torque than the de-stroker idea. But I am not sure if you can really rev that high with the stroker kit.

the US spec elise has a toyota engine and the exhaust manifolds are on the opposite side of the engine than the rover engine. They tried to get the pipes there, but it wasn't worth it - probably lost power or something or wasn't enough room

no off the shelf part could make the car rev to 8500

everything would have to be very custom, and stupid expensive.

and then

it would break

The 350Z's running in the GT300 class in the JGTC are producing somewhere around 450hp, not sure what their redline is in their race motors but I would suspect somewhere around 7500-8000rpm. You could build a motor that redlines at 8500rpm but you would need new internals (crank, pistons, rods, valves, valvesprings, cams etc). If not available off the shelf, it can be made, you just have to spend $$$.

From what I've found on this board the stroke is 3.2". 7500 rpms would be 4000 feet per minute. Which is safe for any motor. 8500 is 4533, a little high but I doubt it would come apart. Alot of MKIV guys run up to 7500 which comes to 4257 on completely stock internal, add valve springs and they rev up to 8500. Stock redline on those is 6500. RB guys also run up to 4500 FPM with no problems. Having a big turbo and the ability to rev a little higher is nice, even if you aren't making more power it atleast gives you a little more usable RPMs if needed.

those are both inline 6s
and sto the rb26 redlines at 8k so i doubt 8500 is much of a stretch, hell, rev limiter is at 8300 i think.

they also have iron blocks, im sure that counts for something, just dont know what.

True they are inlines but the feet per minute figures apply to any piston motor, V8, ect, well maybe not a Harley. It's the rod that sees the stress at high revs. Hondas with aluminum blocks rev to 8500+, close to 5000 FPM. 7500 shouldn't bee too much for a VQ. I had a Z32tt that was chipped and it had no problem pulling past 7K in 1st and 2nd, iron block but still a V6. The factory always leaves a little extra RPM's for safety. I don't own a VQ35 powered car, just like the motors, light as hell. What RPM does the limiter cut fuel at? I've seen a few posts regarding rod strength though.

limiter is at 6700 i think, unless you flash the ecu and then its usuallu 7100 i think
