Default UR Pulley Set....power gains? worth getting?

i am interested in adding more power to my Z. will the UR pulley set (alt, ect.) add decent power? what are the average power gains with the UR set? is there a better set?

thre are power gains because of light weight and under-driving

there is no way that you cant make power with this mod. However it might mess with the harmonic balance of the Z.

It should add around 5hp and UR is the only company I have seen that makes a pulley for the Z

can i replace all but the crank pulley, or is that where most of the power lies?

the crank pulley is the one that makes the difference

p.s. harmonic balance on the z is not affected

this past weekend at Z1motorsports, Baumer (g35-6speed) dyno'd without the UR pulleys then dyno'd with the pulleys installed. he gained @5hp to the wheels. this was done on the same dyno several hours apart.

If you decide to do it, make sure to get all 3 pulleys. I did all three, and I noticed a huge difference right away. You don't get the full effect if you skimp out and just get the crank pulley.

Like vitaminZ said.. I got the full set installed at a dyno day last weekend. I gained 5 rwhp on the dyno and the car revs quicker now. 350zforums.org has them with belts for $320 shipped and the install on mine was $130 - well worth the money!!

thanks everyone for the replies. i guess/ assume now that what i have been told is tru about the balance with the engine and changing the crank pulley.

having said that i have decided that this is going to be my next mod along with Crawford's high flow cats and some Toyos so i can get my Gt-7s mounted.

thanks again everyone,
john

p.s. what colors are available?
where the best on-line retailer?

Ive read that if you plan on adding extra audio components to your z than you wouldnt want to put all the pulleys on, i think it was written on stillens mag or some place and it kinda made me regret getting a system.

All HP gains are from the crank pulley. Do a search this has been discussed many times. Also if you have other bolt-ons, the pulley tends to lean the A/F out a lot when added to a lot of other bolt on mods. Most have had to get an ECU flash to correct this.

Huh? I don't get it. Why does the pulley contribute to a lean condition?

not according to UR:
http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/faq_pulleys.html
3) "How do Unorthodox Racing pulleys give me more power?"

Weight loss is the most critical factor in making, or more accurately, relesing Horsepower! Each pound of weight taken off the engines rotating assembly is worth approximately 2.7HP and the figure increases dramatically with forced induction, nitrous, VTEC and increased RPM's. [B]Only 15-20% of the gains seen from our pulleys comes from the underdriving.[B] The diameter of each of our crank pulleys is reduced up to 20%. We tailor the exact amount of underdrive to each vehicle based on factory specified accessory performance. We fully maintain all accessory output minimums like air conditioning efficiency, power steering feel, and voltage (minimum allowable voltage 12v) even at idle with everything electrical on in the car. There are no adverse effects from using any of our pulley versions. Bolt them on and forget about them, then just follow your vehicles normal maintenance schedule.

the pulley has zero effect on the AFR of your car. The majority of the hp gains are derived from the crank pulley, as your accessory pullies are already quite light

IMHO, its one of the best bang for the bucks mods out there for this car as its inexpensive (relatively) to not only buy, but install as well - which is why it was the first mod I did to my Z (as well as many of my other cars in the past!)

They come in black, blue, red and silver - you can check them out here:

Are the UR Pully underdriven a little? Or are they stock diameter becuase I cant tell from the website?

I was thinking of getting some but I need my alternator to be at peak efficency cause I going to get super mondo stereo.

The UR crank pulley "does" underdrive the accessories.
If you are adding a very high power stereo you prolly should pass.
The water pump and alternator pulleys are really only for show and produce no measureable gains, regradless of UR's marketing bull.

so, the final conclusion is that the UR crank pulley does absolutley no harm to the engine and its components?

yes

FWIW we have customers with some pretty serious stereo mods running the crank pulley without incident. If a truly modo stereo is planned, an aux battery might be a wise choice

For all of you that questioned my statement. I've seen a number of posts with this same result. Search before you discount someone next time...
