Post B&M Shifter Fix (version2) & Install

for those with version1 B&M shifter, you might have noticed some issues with shifting into 5th and 6th gear, perhaps even not pushing down to get into reverse- the majority of the problems have been from a loose guide plate (the yellow triangle) and can be fixed by realigning the plate with the pin on the shifter when in 5th, then shift to 6th and realign/tighten the plate..

for those that have issues with the shifter pin rubbing down to a point where the edge has been permanently rounded, B&M has a new shifter design out that will hopefully eliminate the problem.

i am the owner of the version 1 shifter and went in on Monday to get the new version installed to see if it would help my 5/6 gear shifting issues as well as some of the vibrations i've been hearing under WOT from 3.5k-6k.

here are the images of the Version2 shifter

as you can see from the image, the one on the left is the version1, with the smaller pin. version2, on the right has a much larger pin, in which will not inadverantly rub the yellow guide plate (as much) if you happen to shift and press down on the shifter while shifting.

this is a close up (albeit fuzzy) image of the new pin

new pin, again

the new pin aligned with the shift guide

the pin in NEUTRAL

the B&M crew have been very helpful, and if anyone is unsatisfied with their version 1, to please contact them (Garett or Mark) to try to get it fixed. they will mail you an exchange.

also the new version has much better vibrational dampening, i have the Nismo GT Titanium **** and it used to buzz ALOT under WOT in 1st and 2nd gear.. with this new shifter, the buzz has been dampened significantly, although not completely eliminated... i have not yet tried version2 shifter with the stock ****-

hope this info helps-

weird, i have the Version 1 and have NEVER experienced any rattles or ANY such problem with 5 to 6 gear. maybe thats because i installed it and know its right. not to say yours wasn't or isnt, but when you have someone working on your car that could care less about you or the car, their work will tend reflect that. i too have the same shift **** and have never noticed any rattle or noise from it. i have noticed however, that the need to press down on the shifter to enage reverse is no longer neccessary. i like this, but most don't.

who knows. i dont disagree with you saying that this happens. i mean in order for there to have been a change in design between the two there must have been a problem, this being its fix. i still feel proper installation is the key to doing anyting right the first time. my motto too is, if you want it done right, do it yourself.
