Totally agreed with Jason and those nismo bolts + valve springs work perfectly for me with the Spec 1 cams + 7200rpm (everyday)! And the car rocks!!!

cheers,

richie

Isn't the '05 track/35th designed to rev higher than stock? If so, I don't see how those rods wouldn't be better for revving high than the original rods even if they are heavier. There are more variables that just weight of the rods in determining how high you can rev without the rods stretching/breaking.

Of course, most will prefer only to change rod bolts because those will be so much less expensive to swap out than rods and pistons.

Is that with your stock VQ35 cams or JWT VQ30 cams?

The motors in our old race cars used stock rods out of the 287VQ and Nismo rod bolts... revved up to 7800 no problems ever...

oh just wait to see what the new motors they are working on will do based on the same bottom end...

That's really good news. Was that with a balance and blueprint or just swap the rod bolts from underneath?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm assuming that the oil pan will have to be dropped to change out the bolts. (good time to add a oil pan spacer kit)

I'm concerned about how difficult it may be to access and change the bolts and to be able to provide proper torque specs for the rod bolts.

Any insight would be appreciated.
I'd like some info on this too...

At me to the list of folks that want to know -- can rod bolts be changed from underneath in our cars? If so, are we looking at crazy labor?

I have to tell you guys this bad news.... unfortunately you will need to get the engine out to swap out those bolts.... why? because I have had the nismo rod bolts in my engine already and that's the only way to do that (I was also wondering about the same thing before I got the job done)... Also the torque figure is different from the stock spec according to nismo japan with those bolts, it is tighter with the usage of the angle tool.

cheers,

richie

It has been done from underneath with the engine still in the car on at least two, possibly three, FWD VQ35s that I know of, so I don't think that's true unless something is impossible to reach in the RWD versions.

We've been pretty busy and tied up here, so we haven't had a chance to get Jason's car out to the dyno. We'll keep you all posted, I'm looking forward to seeing the numbers just as you all are

I wonder why everyone wants to insist on buying the Nismo bolts when the ARP bolts are less than half the price. I was the first on Maxima.org to install the ARP or any aftermarket rod bolts in a (FWD) VQ35 and I did mine from under the car. You just have to make sure you critically follow the given torque specs. The ARP specs are 28-0-28-0-28 using their suplied moly lube. I also don't recommend using any cheap ole torque wrench to do them, or a click style.

I am also shifting at 7200 and have my L-Spec ECU mapped to 7500 which the thing sees frequently.

Sorry to wake the dead, but I've looked and I still never saw the lower plenum dyno. I know Jason/Tony said it may be a few days since they have been extremely busy, but I saw somebody post on another thread "according to Jason's dyno on the lower intake plenum...." or to that effect (maybe not those EXACT words) so I was curious. Are these results/dynos posted somewhere?

we shipped out al our crawford plenums to our customers who had orders, so as of right now jason doesn't even have one to test!
and plus we are waiting on the lower plenums still to come in, since i need one, and it will more than likely be my car we test from now on.

With this REV-UP mid-plenum it will automatically make it so your peak power is around 6850RPM making a redline of 7200 worth while...

Now... there is ANOTHER VQ35 plenum that there is only one of in the states that is used on motors that will go make power at 7800RPM... We are working on building a motor using this mid-plenum...

I will be installing a crawford cast plenum with my REV-UP mid plenum and dyno'ing the same...

My car since the dyno is alot more responsive then how it was when I first installed the plenum...

I really wish My rev-limiter was removed and I can go up to 7200RPM if not higher... Once the car hits 5800RPM you feel it really start to pull... the top of 2nd gear is now like the top of 1st gear...

Still very happy with this mod... Just wish I could raise my rev limiter sooner...

My plans have changed since I put this on my car...

My goal is a 350-370 RWHP NA motor built with the 46CC heads, the mid plenum, crawford plenum...

The stock connecting rod bolts are perfect... just needs stronger bolts (use NISMO Bolts)... ANy forged or even the REV_UP connecting rod bolts are heavier... I also looked into other pistons... but the other pistons are heavier which is a no no even for stock compression... so why bother... the stock pistons are actually really good and have a good coating on them...

so...

parts are on order just waiting for them to get here now
did any of this ever happen?

i wish I had my ecu worked on sooner then later... i want to take my motor above 6700 but that will happen soon... before the car felt like it wanted to pull a little bit harder and higher... but now with the new mid plenum the car comes to life at 5700...
did this ever happen?
