You will need solid motor mounts too. If the motor can flex on its mounts and the transmission can not, you can break the transmission housing. I have seen this happen many times on local race cars

Solid motor mounts would rattle your teeth out!

Hardened rubber or urethane would be better.

Agreed. I'd be all over some stiffer engine/tranny mounts, but no one seems to make them. (Not that I can find, anyway.)

Im sorry to say but if you thought the tilton chater or flywheel chatter alone may be something that is anoying you do NOT want this...

Some of my friends you have it... well should say had it took it out because it made their car very uncomfortable to drive...

loud / vibraty

I had polyurethane motor and tranny mounts in my old car. There was a lot of vibration at idle and even more at idle with the AC on. When the car was moving there was no vibration I could feel. The car was pretty solid cause there were no rattles or squeaks but YMMV on that. It never really bothered me and after a while I didn't notice. My wife didn't like it though. I figured the ride (coilovers) would bother her more than the vibrations but that was not the case.

Yup, I had ES polyurethane motor mounts and suspension bushings in my former Eclipse and it caused quite a bit of vibration into the cabin at idle. Worse with the AC condenser running. So I could only imagnine what a complete solid mount would do! If you value your comfort you won't do this mod. More for race cars and not daily drivers.

so obviously no one would do it for their street car.

how much noticable is it? I mean it is like recovering 5% of your lost hp in the drivetrain?

My last car was a street car. The throttle response was better and you didn't feel any jerking under sudden deceleration.

Like Mena said up above, I can't imagine you'd gain any power. It would be improvements in throttle response, and a lack of jerking around that you'd gain.

Does anyone even make poly mounts or even hard rubber mounts for the Z yet? Anything that's stiffer than the stock fluid-filled mounts, but not as hardcore as a solid mount.

Hey guys, Thought I would throw my two cents in from past experience.

A solid transmission mount without solid motor mounts WILL break something; you would be essentially using the transmission mount and transmission housing to hold the motor from twisting; placing way too much stress on it.

Solid motor mounts by themselves will not risk any damage to the transmission.

whatever you end up with in the way of mounts the motor mounts MUST be equal to or greater in rigidity than the transmission mounts.

Oh and BTW----I installed solid mounts on my Yamaha V-MAX and the rear view mirrors are now useless and my hands go numb after about fifty miles. On the good side the more rigid frame created by the mounts made a huge difference in high speed handling.
