Default transmission occasionally won't go into any gear

this has happened to me about 5 or 6 times now in 3 months.

Sometimes when I'm driving hard thru the gears then let up and start taking it easy - when I go to put it in 5th gear it won't go. Try 6th gear, same thing, try back down to 4th, nothing - it's locked. So I have no choice but to coast in neutral at 100mph for about 10 sec before it lets me go back into gear. This strikes me as not safe.

I have the tilton clutch and rogue short shifter with redline transmission fluid (did this before switching fluid)

What the hell is wrong? Is it just general transmission weirdness? I always have my car warmed up before punching it hard.

Also it's noticably harder to shift into 5th, 6th, and reverse than the other gears

I want it to be fixed but I'll bet my life the dealerships here will say it's because I modded my Z. And it probably isn't a repeatable problem...

How far are you pressing in the clutch?

Do you feel there is some room when you press the clutch down all the way and you feel you have to move an inch or more before the trans starts to grab?

Sounds like your pedal stop needs to be adjusted to me and you are pressing in the clutch pedal too far that the clutch re-engauges.

yeah I don't know, it happens on and off - not that often, but still

I'll try adjusting the pedal stop so it's in further

If it is too far down and you press the clutch pedal TO FAR the clutch will re-engauge...

I've had a very similar problem: With car at normal operating temps, after/during spirited driving, shift from fourth to fifth, no workie, try sixth, same results. It's like I just can't find those gears, sort of a blocked feeling. I have to rev match and shift back to fourth. Gave me a real scare one day passing on a two lane.

This, along with my intermittent third gear grind, will force me to go through the hassle of trying to get my tranny replaced.

So good luck and keep us posted. Thanks.

i'm not so sure it's the clutch jason. One time I tried the pedal stop pushed in as far as it'd go and it drove fine - more difficult because of more clutch travel if you pushed it, but it didn't try to reengage.

I was just reading the recent B&M shifter thread where they said if it's not installed right, 5th, 6th and reverse can be more difficult to get into sometimes. I have the rogue shifter so I'm not sure if any of that applies or not
