grounding kit
I was searching courtesyparts.com and ran across grounding kits. I was wondering what the difference (besides the number of wires) is between the 5 wire, 6 wire, 7wire, and earth grounding kits are? Is there a performance edge to any of these?

I was wondering the same thing... not really which is best, but basically does it matter. Theoretically it could make sense, but realistically I don't know. I saw someone once say it accelerates smoother and better above 4k RPMs. Also, there was a guy on here making quality sets for about $75.

Electronics like to be well grounded, period. All the sensors, wires, and the ECU like to have clean signals so adding extra grounding can never hurt. If the stock ground on a certain car is poor, then yes, there are power gains to be had from adding a grounding kit.

In all honesty, it really doesn't matter wht grounding kit you go with, you won't notice a huge power difference, or gain. But they do help, and if you are looking for every last HP you can get, then these have been dyno proven to work. But ur butt dyno won't notice IMO.
Usually the differences in kits doesn't matter, so long as you ground out certain main points, such as valve cover, head, ground points in the engine bay itself, negative batt. terminal etc....

I don't think that a grounding kit will make a measurable hp difference on a dyno. I know everyone read that it did in Turbo magazine, but at the time, they were really pushing grounding kits hard so they probably "found" a 2hp gain. Just my opinion.
That being said, I have an awesome grounding kit. It is a Versa Cruise that I picked up in Singapore from an Apexi distributor. It has a balast box with and internal blue LED. I think Apexi makes something similiar but in red (not as cool if you have a blue car)
Really looks cool when popping the hood at night to show your friends your engine bay.

TPR magazine (www.tprmag.com) has an article this month where they test 6 different grounding kits on a Miata and Del Sol.
Apexi - Super Ground System
Sun Auto - Hyper Voltage System
Sun Auto - Hyperground System
TC Sportline/HLH - Ground Wire Kit
Lineage - Motorsports Ground System
HKS - Circle Earth Ground System
Some gained power on the Miata, some gained power on the Del Sol, but the same kits did not perform the same on both cars. It's an interesting read, I think.
