Lightweight Flywheel = Uphill Battle?
I'm getting a UR Flywheel/NISMO Clutch setup in the next couple weeks.
I've got a question for the people that already have lightened flywheels on their rides.
Going uphill, do you feel a big loss in power?
I know going up inclines and driveways from a stop, you're going to have to rev it a little more to build up more power. But is it THAT drastic?

you will have to rev more to start on an uphill race, but as for "loss of power", i dunno -- i haven't experienced anything like that... pretty much overwhelmed any loss that there might be by quickly revving up to the powerband.
No power loss detected anywhere, wth the possible exception of those nice, torquey ``thunks`` (not really audible - more in feel), on the 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts. All that inertia in the heavy stock flywheel `punted`` it into the next gear if you shifted fast and aggressively. Hills still seem faster with the UR. I like it. Low gears (1 and 2) are definitely faster now, and the highger gears have a bit more pull too IMO.

The only way you could possibly feel a loss of power is when the clutch has not fully engaged yet. You can think of the flywheel as a battery that saves up energy via inertia. This inertia then gets converted to power to the wheels as you release the clutch. With a lightened flywheel, you will have less inertia and will have to give it more gas as you let out the clutch. It will be a more difficult process because changes in throttle will be more immediate in gain/loss of torque (coupled with managing the clutch). With a heavy flywheel, torque changes due to pressing/releasing the gas pedal occur much more slowly as you release the clutch. After the clutch is fully locked, the more immediate throttle response will be most noticable in the lower gears. But it will feel like you have MORE power and more engine braking.

I just got my Z back a few days ago with the new UR lightwieght flywheel paired with the stock clutch. Apprently, there was no great need to change the clutch and the UR flywheel matched up perfectly, all bolts and the release bearings from the stock setup went in perfect. My first impression was not really what I expected as I was ponying the car around for the first ten minutes or so. When I finally reached a stop light, I was lined up first, as the light turned green, I slipped the clutch....holy S....T..the car leaped forward, banged first to second gear with a very forceful engagment, redlined that gear, slammed into third with another very notible "thunk"...(good thunk) and redlined third gear. As I put it into fourth, I let out this laugh, like a two year old kid tickeled pink about some cartoon. WOW, the car did not lose any power whatsoever. Coupled with my other mods, at the rev limit, it seemed there was so much more HP and torque, that the car literally feels like it needs more RPM's. The motor spools up so much faster and agressively that first gear comes and goes so fast. As far as going up inclines, after I read your post I purposley went to this stretch of road with a pretty good incline and the car pulled so hard, no loss of power straight thru the revs. Put another huge smile on my face as this road is very familiar to me and I do recall the feeling the car had before this new mod. I think the next "little" modification I need is a ECU reflash to get more revs out of this thing.
