Is there a reason that I turn my A/C to the OFF setting but its stays ON?

I.E. : I put it in off position and it stays as if I had it on AUTO position??

Help is appreciated!!!

 

I have noticed, that even when in the OFF position, the a/c compresor will come on when I switch to defrost setting, I can only surmise to dry the air.

 

yeah the a/c functions as a dehumidifer as well... which is why it turns on even when it's below 0 outside when you switch the system to "auto" or even if you turn off the a/c and then flip over to defrost the windshield

(quite annoying actually... especially in Toronto winters)
