can anyone provide the weight versus stock pulley. Weight savings is where 80% of the power of the UR pulley is, so if this is a heavy piece it won't do a thing. It looks heavy, but looks can be decieving.

No real weight savings. The thing makes the motor less "Buzzie" by dampening the natural harmonics of the crankshaft. With my light flywheel the motor was growling pretty loud. It seems smoother and quiter now. It might last longer on high RPM abuse with this on the motor.

So no weight savings. That means no power gains. The stock unit is already made to compliment the engine. The crank on the VQ is internally balanced. Why get this again?

Bump for any new info about this thing. I'm considering installing a KJR, CNR or this.

I've heard some horror stories, and since this is also a dampener. It sounds like a better idea for the long haul. I plan on keeping my vehicle until it is a classic and beyond.

The dampner weight is 7.22 lb according to the web site. They even have one for my truck at 18lbs, lol.

Why would you want to externally balance an internally balanced crankshaft?

Its really for the protection from other vibrations, ie a/c compressor, alternator, water pump, power steering, and the occasional engine vibration at load ie poor fuel timing to advanced etc. You don't realize this but your cars crank shaft moves around a lot more than you realize. Also another tip don't over tighten drive belts, this will increase bearing wear on all items.

This has nothing to do with the crank being balanced. Its a damper, not a balancer. You're crank is balnced so that it rotates smoothly wihtout extra mass on one side or the other to cause it to "wobble" while rotating. The engine still applies power in surges though. Every time a power stroke occurs is when your torque is made around the crank, and this process is not smooth over the course of the engine cycle. It comes in surges for every individual cylinder and this occurs at set intervals. This is a frequency, and this damper is designed to offset the frequencies of each individual power stroke from hitting the natural frequency of the steel used to make the crank. Using this will increase longevity and smoothness rather than make power. For a stock or mildly modified engine I wouldn't bother, but for high rpm use like Z350 Lover's 8000rpm screamer, I would think it to be a neccessity.

Good answer "Resolute".

The other reason to get it is running an after market flywheel, the OEM 2piece flywheel is a damper too, when removed motor is much harsher vibrating at high rpm's. The fluidamper helps a lot. If you want to lighten your rotating mass go to the flywheel it bigger in diameter and makes a HUGE difference in performance.

I have that installed on my 8000rpm VQ35 engine as what Will just mentioned.... and it does smooth out the engine a bit, but it is pretty hard to feel it as I have already balanced and blue printed my internal parts... and it is around 0.5KG (less than 1lb) heavier than the stock pulley on the paper, but somehow, I couldn't feel the diff. when they were on my hands though, feel quite similar in weights.

This piece is balanced internally and will also dampen out all the vibrations from the engine up to 10K rpm or so!

And honestly, performance wise, there is no difference before and after... it doesn't harm the high end rpm power at all either... so feel safe to install it as I don't feel any power loss with the extra 0.5kg (on its spec)!

cheers,

richie
