Default Best clutch to get with turbo?

Im sure it has been ask for many times. But I really need some help to decide on a clutch. well my plan is 400hp, price is a slight factor, and ride conditions I can deal with. Any ideas and input would be great THANKS

You can get the JWT Clutch and Flywheel combo for $810. It is supposed to be good for up to 550rwhp, so its good enough for your goal. The ride conditions are almost like stock.

I'm sure other people will chime in with the clutches they have.

I have the JWT clutch/flywheel. So far I think its great. It seems to be holding up well, and the feel is near stock. Very streetable clutch!

Do you have any of the grinding sound from the flywheel with the guys that have the JWT clutch/flywheel combo?

Well, if I drive at around 1500rpm in first gear, stick my head out of the window, and if everything in the neighborhood is super quiet and if I listen very closely, then I can just barely hear the famous "cement mixer" sound. Otherwise under regular driving conditions or anything above 1500rpm you can't hear anything.

There is that cement mixer sound. Its not obnoxiously loud. And I believe you will get that with any aftermarket flywheel application. You can even hear it with the stock one if you listen close enough.

That notorious cement mixer sound from JWT flywheel/clutch combo seems like it differs from cars to cars, and perception of owners. Well, that mixer sound is quite common among the lighter flywheels anyway.
IMO, JWT combos are good for the money if you are aiming about 400whp.
But if money was no issue, I'd go with ATS dual plate carbon/flywheel. (around $2k)

can only be used with tilton fw, unlike the others.

What are your power goals? Check out the ATS clutch if you are planning on going over 500whp. It's pricey ($2K) but is probably the last clutch you will ever buy.

actually the jwt is rated to 550 ft/lbs of torque. it can hold any amount of hp so long as the tq does not exceed 550

i am planning on running anywhere from 500-600rwhp can i run the clutch masters twin disk and is it any good or would the jwt be just fine?

So you're saying the JWT clutch can hold up 1000rwhp as long as the torque is no greater than 550 ft/lbs of torque?

You're statement might be true for the Evo version of the JWT clutch (if there even is a JWT clutch for the Evo... I don't know a lot about mods for the evo), but for the 350Z it says it can hold up to 550hp. Here's the link to the JWT Clutch for the Z http://www.autocarparts.com/part/list/1463/

hp has nothing to do with the amount of force applied to the clutch. hp is a formula derived from torque measuring the amount of work the engine is doing. every clutch and pressure plate is rated to a certain amount of torque it can hold. they may say that on their site, but their techs told me it was rated to "a little over 500 ft/lbs tq" when i called for info before buying it.

oh and jwt only makes part for the nissans. and i had one on my z with the flywheel btw

So why does it say on all websites that its rated for 550hp instead of saying its rated for 550tq? If thats the case then wouldn't it just be easier and more accurate to say it can hold xxx amount of tq, instead of giving you the amount of HP, which really doesn't directly affect it?
I also have the JWT clutch and flywheel and it seems to do its job just fine with the TT right now, not sure how it would do later when I do a rebuild.

btw, what part of Jax are you from? I go there quite often over my breaks.

That depends entirely on how you drive it. you cant give any sort of an estimate on clutch life when factoring in racing conditions. one persons clutch may last longer than anothers due to experience driving a stick. the hardest thing on a clutch is excessive heat, that will kill it faster than anything else.

HP = (trq * rpm) / 5250

550hp = (x * 5250) / 5250
x= 550trq

Nobody mentions RPS products but I have the RPS clutch and flywheel and love it. Its not as light as the JWT but as far as quality goes I haven't seen anything better.
