Default Prices on engine dampers - various

I have the stillen engine damper $130 more or less
(1st Picture)
I have seen the 5zigen engine damper $340 more or less
(2nd Picture)
Then I was coming in the house and I looked at my kids Huffy Holwer we bought two or three years ago for less than $100
(3rd Picture)

I think I might go to a police bicycle auction and see if I can get a bike with this type frame damper - and make some brackets.

I also saw online bicycle dampers for rear shocks, etc, and I think that they were adjustable. They had some heavy duty ones yet they seemed to be small enough to work. Back in the seventies I put a chevy v8 in a buick that had a inline 6, we welded the motor mounts but the welds broke. So I used a turnbuckle and two eyebolts, attached one end to the frame on the drivers side, and the other end to an engine bolt and turned the buckle tight. That engine never moved again (up and to the right)

I doubt that dampeners designed for a bicycle ( specifically shock chamber seals) are designed to withstand the harsh high heat conditions under your hood.

Hmm? I know they look the same but I don't think they are in fact designed for the same application. What I mean is that, like our shocks & springs for our suspension, there are different ratings depending on application. This is calculated with weight in mind. That's why you don't just go off & use a spring or shock on another car just because it fits. The shock on the bike was designed to absorb the weight from the bike & the rider which could be around 200lbs. The dampener on the other hand was designed to withstand the torquing of an engine that I'm sure is more than that of a bike/rider. So although it may dampen some shock, I don't think it will withstand it for a long period of time since it's being pushed beyond its design which may result in breakage. Just my .02.

In case anybody is wondering I have the Stillen and it is truly a worthy mod for the money. I do see stress cracks in the body of the dampner so I hope it holds undertime.

Hmm, I'd prolley return it and demand a refund from Stillen. There should be no stress fractures, either its a defective unit or a defective design.

I also guess it could be adjusted incorrectly , subjecting to loads beyond it's design limit. Or you may have a bad motor mount which is placeing more load on the dampener than intended.

+1

I have the Stillen & have no stress cracks. If it's cracked, it's definitely going to give sooner or later.

That picture makes it look like the lower portion of the damper is a solid piece and the upper portion uses a spring. Jason, is that thing solid like the Stillen (the lower blue part) or is it an actual shock?

it is a damper like the stillen, with a spring to absorb small vibrations to keep the cabin from vibrating...

The brackets do look nicer than the Stillen I have, and, IMO, look like they are better placed to prevent movement.

there was a guy that had 2 of the 5Zigen dampers - one on each side of the engine. He said it worked really well setup like that

are the 5Zigen ones discontinued now? Seems to be hard to find
