New Cooler
Daniel - I'm using my present cooler in series with the factory one in the OEM radiator. The Koyo radiator doesn't have a reservoir dedicated to cooling an A/T ( it's designed for 6 speeds ) so I'll just feel better going with a larger cooler since the add-on cooler will be the ONLY cooling the A/T fluid gets.
I spoke at length with Dave last night & he's convinced me to try the B&M #70297 ( $209.00 in Jeg's catalog ). W/O going into thermodynamics, I also agree with him about using one equipped w/ a fan. While U're moving the normal airflow will take care of things but in stop & go driving, the stagnant hot air needs to moving for proper heat transfer. That's my latest plan!!

Yes & No!!
Daniel - Well, yes - I have the B&M cooler but no, it's not installed yet ( still sitting on my living room floor along with many other G parts ) I just sent my Vortech & other parts to John w/Rabbid Performance over in the Dallas area & I'm shooting for a late August install. We're trying to coordinate some "tricks" with Cat's
( DBZCat ) Vortech re-install but we'll both post pics when things R done. Maybe John'll put 'em on his website when he's done as well.

Guys:
I have the Griffin 5AT radiator with the built-in tranny cooler. The tranny cooler is a little smaller than the factory, but is supposed to be more efficient. I noticed the last time I went thru the twisties on angeles crest heading to Palmdale/LACR for drag racing, that the Tranny started giving me problems and wasn't shifting properly in MM.
After cooling down and driving normal in D, it came back. At the track, after a few runs, the MM shift problem came back (100 degrees at the track)
To mitigate this issue, I have the Stillen oil cooler going in with an Earl's 502 oil tstat.
Along with that, I have a B&M supercooler #70255 for the tranny coming from Summitt. (i'll use inline with the Griffin cooler)
I'll let you know how it goes. I'll probably do a DIY for them.
Cheers, Ted

Does anyone notice heat coming from the right side of the driver leg area (probably from the transmission)?
Sometimes I go into my car and right away, there is heat coming fromt hat area of the driver's leg room.
Is there a TSB on automatic tranny being too hot?
I drive home from work, I rest the car for an hour, then when I went out at night, that area feels hot, and heat is radiating from it.
Is this to be expected? I don't think I drive the tranny that hard.

The Griffin radiator was a one off custom that Griffin did for me.
http://www.griffinrad.com
The radiator in DaveO's "keeping it cool" article is that radiator.
I was working with a guy (Vince Burden) who is no longer with them. Thankfully they did ship my unit out, but it doesn't seem that they have decided to produce it regularly. As mine was a Beta.. it was not a perfect fit, but it works well enough. The idea was to come up with a direct bolt-on replacement. I had mine in and running since around March and it work perfectly (along with DaveO's custom crank to efan conversion).
Two others received this radiator from Griffin, DaveO and GurgenPB for their 5AT G35 sedans.
The person with the latest greatest info would be DaveO... but I am not sure he has anything recent. Dave?

I may be adding a B&M 70355 Trans Fluid Consistency unit to assist with and tackle those hot runs up at LACR. We'll see what my LM1 reports next spring. Our trannys / TCU do not like 105 degree / 2700' above sea level drag racing.
I'll keep ya posted, as I haven't had the LM1 running the last few races I went to. I know that DaveO has been running the B&M tranny cooler for a while now, since he is on the upper desert 24x7.
As for the radiator, I have not heard of Griffin producing it, so you might call/email them to see what they are doing with it. I know for a fact that they will make you one if you want it.... you have to be OK with it not fitting perfectly. PM if you are interested and I'll tell ya what you can do to get one.
Cheers, Ted

i installed the B&M 28,000 GVW (11'' x 8'' x l.5'') on my z a little over a year ago. i was getting my torque converter modified at the same time so i went ahead and slapped that on as well.
the install was not fun, but worth it IMO. we do have stock mini coolers right under the radiator so i dont see the need for a larger one unless your going to be upgrading your torque converter or driving it hard consistantly.

The B&M stacked plate design is the sturdiest by far and the best imho. It is pictured in the 1st post, top 2 pics. The cooler is automatically bypassed in cold weather until the fluid warms up. I have a 28000 GVW and it works great in -20 temps.
I am in the process of installing a hi-stall converter for next season and am adding a 10" fan to the cooler and totally eliminating the radiator cooler.

hey let me ask a question does the
B&M 130-70297 Hi-Tek 13-1/2'' x 9'' Cooler w/9-1/2'' Electric Fan $209.99 or
130-70298 Hi-Tek 10-1/2'' x 6-1/2'' Cooler w/7'' Electric Fan $189.99
Do this coolers have the function that it automatically passes the tranny fluid when it starts over heating at a certain temperature i read this about a week ago or so in one of the members threads but i dont remeber know.

The B&M hi-tek coolers has a thermal switch that activates the fan when the fluid temp reaches 175 degrees
