Was fourth hard before? What's your impression now that you've driven it some more...would you do it again?

Also wondering if you bought another shifter cup and how hard it was to pop the new shifter into it. Did you have to use a vice or any special press tool?

Getting the shifter into the cup isn't a problem. The problem is getting the OEM shifter out of the existing cup. I inverted the cup on top of a vice and tapped the OEM shifter out. The problem is I massaged a bit too hard and damaged the rubber section on the top of the existing cup slightly. I was too impatient to wait for a cup and the dealership down here didn't have the part (and I was having a hard time getting one on line too).

If you aren't in a rush, buy a new cup.

I love it and wont go back to stock.

Yes I bought a new shifter cup and I used a clamp and a rubber malet

fourth is sometimes hard to find while downshifting never while regular shifting.

I am a bit fuzzy on replacing the shifter. Is the objective to shorten the distance of the shifting throw( at your hand ) to make it more S2000-ish and that's it or is there more to it than that ? Mine is very slow from 1st to 2nd which has been a concern of mine for a while. I have been waiting for it to get better with break in and it never has. All other gears are fine, just 1 to 2. I don't suppose a short shifter would help that any ?

Yeah, I wouldn't expect the shifter to improve this. How many miles have you racked up? It took 2500 city miles or so before mine broke in and its really only smooth after it warms up.

A technique that seems to be working for me, that someone else mentioned on this forum had mentioned, is to leave your foot on the gas a sec. longer while shifting. Helps keep the revs up which the synchros like.

I don't think so. The 1-to-2 shift is slow for me as well (all other shifts are fine) --- it was never smooth for me and a lot of other people. Always felt the shifter was sliding on the left side of a lump in the middle of the 1st to 2nd gear. Many other people have experienced the infamous "lump" that was a topic on this board a year or two ago.

I'm sure it will be fine...these guys know what they're doing.

Did you get any word back yet? I also have what looks like that 1st "prototype" version. It's brand new since I haven't had a chance to install it yet. Now I'm wondering if I should contact them as well...

There's nothing to worry about here...the only thing that changed was the addition of the collar which keeps the top and bottom shafts from separating when overzealous installers wrench on it too hard. He said to simply install it to the point of resistance and then enough to square up the ****. All other specs are identical.
