Default The million dollar question.....

Anyone know how difficult it would be to transplant the 300hp motor into a 287hp motor car. Other than the engine, primary ECU harness and ECU, would anything else be needed? Has anyone done this yet?

I would rather spend all that money (parts and labor) into aftermarket parts.

you'd need an 05 ECU and maybe some extra wiring or an EMS

the 03 and 04 ECU has no idea how to handle the VTC and cams and the 7000 rpm redline - it wouldn't know the engine has those capabilities

you are MUCH better off just buying an 05

...I wouldn't bother unless you were going FI and were going to build up an engine and use an EMS anyway

some people depending no the class they run in have to run a stock motor...

it would be very $

there are other options you can do, are you trying to stick to a certain race class?

No.... it was more of a curiosity question than anything else. The new engine may also have strong enough connecting rods to better handle a modest forced induction system, and a new strong enough factory assembled power plant for $8000 seems like a viable alternative to pulling your motor, ripping it apart, rebuilding it and re-installing it. Also, the variable timing control does have the potential to make the car more responsive to NA mods. Finally, in terms of smoothness and feel, it is simply a better motor

For $8000 including pulling and installing the motor you can have one hell of a custom built motor.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thats awesome... But you also eliminated your self from alot of SCCA race events..

If you are building a car for SCCA or other groups, you have to have your car modded with specific mods... There is nothing against using the 300HP motor, but in the same class you cant change the intake...

I know about SGP racing. Has anyone done a high compresion NA build-up from them or someone else. What is required for the engine management and is it emissions legal?

I haven't seen or read of anyone doing this. After all is said and down it is not worth the money for the hp you get.

I'm trying to understand why you would want less torque...

Are you guessing that it has better internals? Or is this a fact? i would find it hard to fathom why Nissan would put so much money into a different engine just to get the magic 300 hp number when a few external mods would do the trick. So I'm doubtful there is anything significantly different between the 2 engines .... but its not like I haven't been wrong before.

peak torque.. but the torque curve is different... you have more torque in higher rpm's then the other motor...

you can have all the turque you want down low... That doesnt help you when you are 5000RPM - 7000RPM (road course)
