? about JWT clutches/flys
I just got a JWT clutch and flywheel setup. Now, I know that the lighter flywheel should make a little more noise than the stock one, but mine makes a LOT of noise. Very audible type of meat grinder/rattleing noise with the windows up or down, even over stereo noise sometimes. Has anyone else experienced this with this setup?? Im trying to decide whether or not to take it back to the shop where I got it and tell them.

that is normal...
especially when acclerating in gear below 2500 RPM... solution... go to a lower gear so you are above 2500 RPM...
Under idle, it will do it as well... some times... some times it doesnt... if you presss in the clutch it goes away...

Yea mine does it too. Most gears below 2k rpm and at idle. Just sounds like something is loose and rattling around, but red loctite and 80-90 ft-lbs torque on 8 bolts, nothings loose.
Bothers some, other it doesn't, I don't really mind it but my friend hates it. Loves the car, but said he couldn't handle hearing that everyday.

does anyone have this same problem with this noise stock? I bought mine used, and it makes the same exact noises eveyone describes that the JWT and lighter clutch/flywheel combos make. Im starting to wonder if the previous owner had the stock clutch and flywheel replaced.
Mine does, but it is not very loud. With the radio on I wouldn't notice. The Z has a beefy transmission and the rotating parts have more mass to them, not like the S2000 or some front driver, and this causes the noises you hear in low rpm when the engine is lugging. This noise is common in truck's with a manual as well, maybe why it doesn't bother me.

you dont NEED to, but you can... Usually dont do it unless the car has more then 30k on it... it uses the OEM bearing...
Here is a post I just put on a different board that you all may find usefull...
If you are looking for something that is streetable and does not really effect driveablity you have a few options...
NISMO Flywheels = 23lbs
JWT Flywheel = 14lbs
NISMO Pressure Plate and Disc = 17lbs
JWT Pressure Plate and Disc = 20lbs
ACT Pressure Plate and Disc = ??lbs
OEM Pressure Plate and Disc = 21lbs
To get the lightest weight and best performance and keep things very streetable would be the JWT Flywheel with NISMO Pressure plate and disc. It is the lighest of the 2 combinations...
For those with FI applications if running the JWT flywheel I would recomend the JWT Clutch since it has a little more clamping force as well as the ACT Clutch which will handle just over 510ft-lbs torque.
For street applications any of these will be fine NA or with basic FI.
The next best thing is going to be the Exedy Carbon Series clutch & flywheel setup. It is very streetable since the Carbon Disc can slip easly, but when it is hot it grabs! That set up is a total of about 32lbs but has a smaller diameter clutch, only by about an inch or so.
TILTON also has a set up that has a 7.25" clutch diameter and a 8lbs flywheel. The full clutch and flywheel set up is 16lbs! Even the full street set up is known to be not very streetable by some, I drive with it every day and love it.
For Higher horsepower applications the clutch material will have to be a cerametallic to not slip, these clutchs are more for racing and are very grabby. They can not be slipped. But these can handle more power.
My recomendation for the best out of street driving with no effect on drivability is the JWT Flywheel with NISMO Clutch.
As far as the sound... There is some "Chatter" at Idle. But that will go away if you press the clutch pedal in... And most of the time it isnt there...
When driving, if you are in gear below 2500 RPM and giving throttle to accelerate the car will chatter... Solution, drive in a lower gear...

Is it true the pilot bearing is harder to change even with the clutch out?
