people don't like doing that cause it's not so great for the engine

i've actually thought of going the opposite direction and filling up with 101 octane since it still sells for 5.50. Pump gas has gone up $1 in the last year, but race gas hasn't budged

I find the fact that pump gas raising while race gas stays the same odd to say the least.

shouldnt they both be raising?

nevermind, igonore me, Im starting on something that belongs in the off-topic forums.

Isn't it considered OFF ROAD fuel? If so, then you don't pay the taxes for the roads and highways. That's why it's not moving much.

well that depends. Leaded gas like VP Race fuels and such you don't have all the fed and state taxes on, but any 100 octane gas from a gas station you do. It is Unleaded btw.

The gas is cheap in the USA.

In Germany 1 liter (98 Octane) ---> € 1,49 = $ 1.86411 USD an 100 Octane = € 1,59 .

is 100 octane good for our cars, do we need some ECU reflash for our cars to accept this fuel and maximize it? DO you guys notice a difference from say 93/94 octane.....very curious...BTW filled up last night as the price dipped for some reason...1 litre of 94 octane paid $1.18 CAD.

Gas has some what stabilized at around $3.09/gal for 93 here in Atlanta. After the hurricane price gouging of up to $6/gal was going around. The Gov put an end to that REAL quick!!

artmansr,
Running regular unleaded with a so-called octane booster is not a wise idea. You will still ping like crazy. The reason being is that the small amounts of octane booster sold in the stores may only raise octane a couple of points (.2 to .3). There simply isn't enough aditive in that small bottle to do much of anything. Toluene is a major component in gas that determines octane rating. Premium gas has about 3 to 5% so to effectively raise the octane level from, let's say, 93 to 100 you'd need about 30% toluene (which is the max you want to mix). That same 30% in regular gas, 87 if that's what u have, will bump it up to 94 or 95.

Here's a formula to figure octane rating:
Toluene = 114 octane / Xylene = 115 octane

(GALS OF GAS x OCTANE OF GAS) + (GALS OF TOL or XYL x OCTANE LEVEL)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL GALLONS (your tank size)

yeah i have a 91 civic that's my daily. I've kepted the z parked for a couple of weeks now. The civic gets about 30ish city, around 40 highway. I ain't complaining. I do like to laugh at those with the land tanks and mini buses filling up at the gas station with disgusted looks on their face. Hey, maybe it'll stay this high a little longer to force those with gas guzzlers to sell and buy more efficient cars, which in the long run will decrease demand and drop prices further.

just my thoughts.
