****, I have an AEM intake, now a want another one, i had no idea it was loosing at low end. And I have the SES exhaust. Damnit. Why didnt you guys tell me this **** before. Damn you. Damn you all. Now my mind is going to be plagued with the idea that my car is actually slower than it was when it was stock. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I had the AEM intake and definitely lost on the low end. If you have any questions about this intake, call Doug at Crawford. He'll tell you how bad it really is. He has plenty of dyno sheets to show some cars losing up to 9whp because of the AEM.

Since I believe I started this thread, I simply wanted to know why the "Track" Z is rated at 300HP and my "Touring" Z is rated at 287. What is different with the "Track" in comparison to my "Touring" model?

new cams, rods, valve springs, intake plenum, ecu, variable valve timing on exhaust side, 7100 redline stock

It the JWT Popcharger superior to the Aem or Injen CAI? I noticed that the road racers were using those at the race track.

I have a 2003 "G" 6MT Coupe.

Mods:
TechnoSquare Crawford Reflash ECU
JWT PopCharger with "Z" Tube
Crawford V4 Plenum
Crawford HiFlow Cats
Crawford Headers
Invidia G200 Dual Exhaust with "H" Pipe
Ground Wires

It was a warm summer night in Tucson. An '05 6MT and myself ran dynos. He ran six, 3 stock and three with a motordyne spacer. The motordyne added six hp to the RevUp motor.

The dynos below are of my car modded as above, and the '05 RevUp with the spacer. As you can see we make about the same peak HP, I make more peak torque. I also make my power much earlier. Because of the reflashed ECU, my redline is now 7,100 RPM.

Anyway the dyno is below. I'm the Blue Line the RevUp motor is the Red Line.

Also the 35th Z's with the 300hp motor are heavier than the 287 and the 06's are a few hundred pounds heavier!!!

I pulled an 06 on the highway pretty hard, I dont know how many car links I could have ran b/c right from the start I pulled him and he gave up about 5-10 seconds in. My mod's are below, and yes the AEM intake sux, I have the K&N Typhoon on order, it seems to have alot of good reviews and dyno numbers.

This is just not right. Increase in octane rating doesnt increase power produced by the engine. The ECU wont notice the change in octane rating, it will only alter A/F and timing when it notices pings or knocks. So if you dont hear knocking with 91 octane, that means you are not benefitting with 93.
So no, higher octane rating doesnt boost power.

So you are saying that quality control is so bad that there is a 13 Hp difference in the same spec engines. If thats the case Japanese car manufacturers wouldnt have been where they are today after WW2. Its their quality control methodology thats one of the reasons where they are today. And I can understand 1-2 HP, but 13 Hp is not acceptable. For your info, every engine is run after assembly and tweaked, so the quality control of the whole system or engine is tested. So this is BS IMO.

If you remember the debut of RX8, the spec output was 250HP. But it didnt make anywhere near that, so the reduced the specification down to 238HP. Do you think they would have gotten away with claiming 250HP?

some stock Z's do dyno 245 whp, and some stock Z's dyno at 230 whp, so there are freaks and lemons IMO. Just doing a search around the site you can see the different dynos, Acree dynoed at 245, and there are plenty of other dyno charts posted in the low 230's.

256.60 HP 245.68 TQ

I have a K&N Typhoon intake, Helix test pipes, Japtrix y-pipe, and ground wires.

If you add 17% for loss that is 300.2 hp at the crank and 287.4 tq

Are all dynos calibrated to the same spec? I dont think so.

There are so many other variables to change the power at wheels.

You are 100% right.

Some of the other stock Z's I have driven felt faster/slowwer but it could have just been extra cold/hot those days.

modding the plenum is the easiest and cheapest way to add HP and TQ without losing any power. You might lose a few HP/LB FT really low down (say under 1500) but its totally negated by the nice gains over the entire band

Default Nismo Exhaust and CAI

I live in central Illinois. Is there a reputable dealer or individual who you can recommend to add Nismo Exhaust and CAI to my 2003 Z? I want some extra hp and torque. I would like to be around 300hp.

Intake, exhaust, and plenum should be plenty, so you can brag 300.

If you want to prove it, pulling the engine and finding a crank dyno is the hard part.
