Default Tranny being replaced, should I get the Nismo Flywheel?

The service guy said I have to pay for the flywheel which is $1,200 or so. He said the Nismo part was about the same cost.

Wondering if anyone has gone this route?

The Nismo flywheel should be about $600-$700. We've suggested this when somebody needs a clutch since you have to replace the factory flywheel anyways.

I wonder what the other 500 was for. It wasn't labor, $1,200 in parts alone? Dealer rape???

I'll tell them to go with the NISMO then

Thanks

Its a piece of cake to change the flywheel when the transmission is already out.

I don't think I would mind it much. Car is loud as hell already.

I'll have to check in with them tomorrow about the 1,200. They said the rest would be covered by warranty, including the labor (but not the parts) for the flywheel. So if the flywheel is the only thing I'm paying for, why is it $1,200...

Is it just the flywheel that needs to be replaced? I"m trying to figure out how they got to $1,200 just for parts. The MSRP is 933 on the regular flywheel, even though their internet price is 700 ish.

What else besides the flywheel would I have to pay for?

This isn't adding up

I did the exact same thing when I got my tranny replaced by Performance Nissan.

I think the $1,200 they quoted is for both the Nismo clutch and flywheel. Thats about how much I paid when I did the swap. Labor was covered under warranty.

They dont regrind the stock flywheel? They have to replace the whole thing? Is this true anytime the clutch is changed on a Z, or is this a special circumstance?

The stock dual mass flywheel cant be resurfaced so it has to be replaced every time you do the clutch.

It's a good idea to swap out the flywheel and clutch when you have the tranny out, it saves labor costs. I recently did the JWT flywheel and nismo clutch combo, and I really like it, I highly recomend it, if you're ok with a little extra noise from the JWT flywheel. It's not bad at all, I don't mind it, especially with the radio on normal level.

What causes the noise, and what does it sound like (grinding, rubbing, rattling, etc...)?

I reallly wanted the NISMO flywheel however they couldn't find any to get in the Western US.

I thought about ordering one online, but this is my dialy driver, and I need it for work.

I did get the OEM flywheel for 730 or so, and I know I could have gotten the Nismo for 200 cheaper or so.

Oh well, a new tranny is a reason to be happy

how much torque is the nismo clutch/flywheel combo good for?

how does the JWT clutch compare to the nismo clutch?

I had the Nismo flywheel installed when they changed out my tranny. It makes absolutely no additional noise. It cost me $400. I complained to Nissan USA, because the tech told me my flywheel and clutch were shot and I had only 25,000 miles on the car. This was before my performance mods. They agreed to pay for the clutch and gave me the flywheel for $400. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
