Cams
I building the car all motor and was wondering what cams everyone recommends. it is a daily driver but i take it to the auto cross track and very rarely to the drag strip. i know the Z isnt a drag car thats why i auto cross more than drag race. just wondering what cams all of you say would be best and what degree of duration. thanks
if you're staying N/A (as you say "all motor", i'm guessing here)... then it's a no-brainer... tomei 268's.
One thing... you say that you AutoX... you know that swapping cams will move you into the SM2 class, right? their pax score is brutal... don't expect to place anymore unless you're unreal behind the wheel.

i dont really do serious comeptition auto just go out with my friends once and a while.....id say i do really well now and i guess ill see how the difficulty rises in the SM2 class
The nismo cams will work best with the stock ECU mapping. The JWTs will work the next best and then from there you will want a way to tune the car to maximize gains after going with cams. The Tomei cams are aggressive and require a more involved install and tuning, but will yield good upper rpm increases. I would think in autox you would be looking more towards the Nismo or JWTs to help keep a better power balance from lower rpms to higher rpms.
im gonna get the UTEC to tune the car along with when i get the cams.....so u think it would be good to get the tomei's with a good tune or will the nismo's or JWT still be better on autox
it depends on how you drive -- i spend most of my time at 5k and up (but then, i like the big track more than the autoX
) -- if you spend most of your time in midrange then it would actually be a tough call, because the tomei's have a dual-hump torque curve (without tuning, of course) with a peak at 3500 and another at 6k...
if you don't plan on hitting a large track hard or street racing, i'd change my reccomendation to the JWT's just because you won't need the bigger cams ('cause you wont be at 5k and up for most of the time
)

Machupo, did you get your car ECU tuned for the Tomei's or are you just running untuned with a raised idle? Also do you have a dyno sheet of the Tomei's that you don't mind sharing? I do alot of high speed track events so I would love to see you power curve to see if those cams would be right for me.
i'm running a stock tune with a raised idle (along with the technosquare F-spec flash)... the top hp was only about 245 (i have the dyno sheet in the car, which is at the body shop) -- mainly because i have a lower compression ratio, stock plenum/headers, no tune (oh, and the engine was brand new
)... that's all in prep for the TT system that will go on shortly, then a retune to a nice level
as for the power curve with the tomei's it's pretty awesome (running rather lean at the top end though, so i'm looking forward to a tune!) -- hopefully i'll get the car back and get the intake straightened out down at crawford... i'll see if i can re-dyno it at the same time and get back to you!

Nismo spec 2 are the only way to go in my opinion. You'll also need to get VTC modules with them so you don't loose your low end torque. The UTEC can't control them at the moment, but aparently they will add an option later on.
