Default Maximum NA Setup?

I've found that almost everybody in this foum talking about FI(either Turbo or SC) setup to increase power-output. I know FI is way to go in terms of money/HP-gain raio but I'm still interested how much HP gain is possible without FI system.

What do you think of this setup?

Original HP 287 (240 RWHP)
Injen or AEM CAI +5 RWHP $250
Amuse Y-pipe + Catback + T.Muffler +20 RWHP $2500
Port & Polish +20 RWHP $1500
Header + 15 RWHP $1500
ECU Tuning +10 RWHP $1000
Light Flywheel +3 RWHP $500
Underdrive Pulley +2 RWHP $200

Total 315 RWHP(15% drivetrain loss -> approx. 370 crank HP?) $7500

It's about same price range with TT setup but I guess this setup gives you INSTANT-reaction power. What's your opinion?

I don't really think that some of the numbers you have listed on there will yield those gains. Even if they did yield those gains independtly I doubt they would do it in series. Just my opinion.

Very rarely are modifications additive.

It is nearly impossible to say what all those mods would produce on the Z, since no one has yet done them all.

I'd take those advertise numbers as a grain of salt.

But maybe you have more flow coming out that is
beneficial for FI setup....

I personally will not be going the FI route unless I really start to feel that the Z is slow. I would much rather tweak the engine to optimise its NA capability, but like you, I don't know how far that capability will extend.

I'm not sure exactly what the difference between a "port and polish" and "header" is, but one thing that I think you left out was new cams. Since the Z currently has its torque peak at 4800 RPM, you might be able to gain some significant power by maintaining that torque further into the rev range. If you were able to get 276 lb-ft @ 6200 RPM (where the power peak is currently) you would have 326 Crank HP. Obviously, I've simplified the calculations by putting the power and torque peak at the same point, which would be very unlikely. Typically you would see more power after the torque peak since torque usually doesn't drop as fast as RPM climbs until you come really close to redline. Anyhow, new cams, along with some of the other changes you mention, might be able to improve the top end of the Z, hopefully without harming the emissions or low end too much.

Of course, I wouldn't frown on additional torque across the entire range of engine speed either.
