can someone help point me in the right direction which one/kit i need to buy if im stock and want to do this.

it just depends on whether or not you want to buy a limited slip with it.

Depends if you want to swap out your LSD or not at the same time, which is highly recommended since you do not want to pay for labor twice. I used the Nismo LSD and love it, but it is a bit harsh for other Z drivers. I have heard great things about Quaife (Sp?) and the Cusco LSD (Adam @ Z1 Auto.com) You can also talk with BJ from 350evo directly and he can help you through it all.

-350Z Short 3.917 Final Drive Ring and Pinion $849.95
If you want to just change the gearing

- 350Z Short 3.917 Final Drive Ring and Pinion with a Nismo LSD $1,750.00
If you want to swap out the LSD at the same time

-350Z Short 3.917 Final Drive with NISMO LSD, Assembled $2,334.95
Get this if you want it all assembled and you can have an easy swap and faster install since the pumpkin is already assembled

do they sell those together with the cusco or quaife or anything other than nismo?

I also have a newb gearing question...

Doesnt the 3.9 gearing provide faster acceleration? If so, dont gears that provide faster acceleration make you lose top speed or something?

350evo only sells it with the OS Giken and Nismo LSD's I believe. I would suggest contacting BJ directly if you want to find out.

Faster acceleration and lower top speed. Great for NA and bad for FI since you want to stay in gears longer with a power adder. Here is a graph to give you a visual:

350 Evo also sells the oem lsd with the 3.9 FD, so if you want you can just get the assembled unit. They will charge you for the core though, so you have to send your old pumpkin back to them. I think this is the smartest way, things can go wrong if you have a shop assemble the pumpkin, if you get the assembled unit you can just swap your pumpkin with theirs. why dont you go to 350evo.com and ck it out. IMO, the difference in price for gettin the assembled unit is the price it would cost to have a shop assemble the unit for you. So its the samething. I would rather have 350evo do the assembling.

It depends on what you are looking for. Most people would go FI, but me personally I want a truly reliable NA motor since I pound on it at the track. NA z's do really well with a good driver and some 3.9's If you are a drag race ***** than FI all the way

Well I guess I don't need a new final drive since I'm already FI. sweet. I just saved $2300.

I will want and LSD eventually though.

$2300!? The thing only costs $850... There is no way install is $1450 on a final drive, in fact, you could buy it and install it for at or under $1450 from what everyone has told me... But a better source would be someone that has it, can someone who did this please enlighten us about the total cost, from purchasing online to install in the shop, of a final drive? thanks

if i just buy the ring and pinion not assembled, what do you think installation will be on something like that, is the new lsd really that necessary?

can someone who did this tell me their experience with it ( labor costs, hours to do something like this, worth the money, what kind of gains did they get with it, do you recommend it for people sticking to NA? )

i appreciate it guys, thanks!

i am going to order only the 3.9 fd. zcargarge quote me around $500 on the installation. make sure you get front and back bearings and nut and some other parts that is list on 350evo. you might want to replace all that with the 3.9 fd. so the total would be around $1600 installed. this fd will give you a nice acceleration but there is no comparison with fi for sure. this mod considers the best na mod by some members here.

Definitely just do the LSD at the same time since whoever does the install will have access to it. The LSD and sway bars made a world of a difference at the track around corners. If you are sticking with NA this is a mod to do

What LSD did you go with? Im trying to decide if the price difference between the Nismo and the OS Giken is worth it.

I went with the NISMO since it was a good price and do not mind aggressive driving experiences. To some the Nismo has a rough engagement, so other alternatives are the Quaife, Cusco RS, and possibly the OS Giken although I have not heard much about that specific application

I looked up the Cusco RS and the OS Giken and it seems the only difference is that the OS Giken has twice as many clutches. How would this benefit it?

What do you mean by rough engagement?? I've heard Nismo and OS Giken is too much for regular daily street driving. But, what makes it so undriveable in the streets??
