Default T56 Trans to VQ35 conversion

Whats up everybody. Im doing a custom project and I heard that the 350z trans aint the most durable. I was wondering if there are kits to bolt the T56 trans to the VQ35 motor. Or if there are any companies out there that can make a custom bell housing to bolt it up.

There really haven't been issues with the tranny itself. The shafts and gears seem to be O.K. for the higher hp cars so far. The big problems have been the synchros in daily driven cars. The 05's have new updated bronze synchros and what appears to be a better set-up. This might be something up your alley though.

Might be a better, cheaper, and more reliable option.

Thanks, you guys are already more help then the guys on Zilvia.net. They always need to know what the hell your doin before they give you help. Then they flame you cause the think you dont know what your doin. Anyways I was debating the power glide thing but I was thinking I may want a manual trans cause I plan to SCCA/drift the car too. Thing is the motor setup is going in a S14 240SX. Does anyone make upgraded synchro set ups for the VQ35 trans? Thanks for the help guys.

If you get an 05 tranny you should be fine. One thing that some people have found out that really helps the synchros and grinding is to swap out the tranny fluid for some Redline fluid.

Agreed...the 05 trannys are upgraded with bronze sycnhros for increased durability.

i have seen a dakota r/t converted to 6speed using a t56. the guys took an old trans, cut off the bell housing and welded it to a t56 case. they had to swap out 6th gear and trim a crossmember but it was in there.

Yeah I heard the 05 trans was better. What were the older style synchros made of? If it can handle the power I may go that route. The idea of welding the bellhousing to the T56 bellhousing isint a bad idea ethier. Only thing if I do that is Im gonna have to buy 2 trannys. Anyone out there running 600-700 horses on the 05 tranny? I would also definetly put some good synthetic fluid in it. Oh and could the grinding be a result of over engaging the synchros?? I noticed the after market shifters dont have stops like they do on the mustang ones. Shifter stops greatly reduced failure on the old mustang trannys.

There are a couple of street driven cars on the boards running 600+ rwhp. Check with Sharif @ Forged Internals to see if he has had any issues. Last I heard he was upgrading to an 05 tranny.

from my experienced the older synchros were made of glass, hahhaa. you get one or 2 shots at a mis-shift or grind and it is pretty much gone. i had my trans replaced right before i went f/i, and now the new one they put in has a super hard time getting into 5th gear. i dam near need to brace myself and just slam it. hoping it will clear its own path soon, lol. anyways, my car has been down now off and on for 6 months and if i go in there with trans probs now with my set up, they will blame it on the f/i and not the fact it was messed up from the second of install. so i am stuck prolly.
all that didn't answer a dam bit of your question though, i'm just venting.

Hahaha, nah dont worry. I woud wanna vent too. You would think the aftermarket would come out with something if it was such a big concern. Well its a toss up between the 05 trans or a T56 and getting a custom bell housing made somewhere. If I get one made I will be sure to keep everyone posted on the progress. Im sure it will be a swap you all will be interested in.

Hey does anyone know if the bellhousing will unbolt from the Z33 Tranny? Or if there are any trannys with the same bolt pattern with a removable bellhousing. I found some adapters from G-force to bolt a different tranny to a different bellhousing.

I think the bellhousing and the tranny are one piece.
