Default Emergency! Help!

What the hell. Girlfriend turned wheel of car while it was off until it locked up. Asked me why it wouldn't turn anymore. I go down there find out what she did. Normally it just requires extra force on the key to turn but the thing is totally locked. Key won't budge wheel won't budge. What the *** do I do? I asked if she did anything else she says no she was turning the wheel and it locked up. Nothing else. I doubt that is true. What did she *** up?

This kind of steering wheel lockup has been occurring since they put steering wheel locks on car in 1969. I can't believe people haven't experienced this problem. Just turn the wheel and the key at the same time and everything will be ok.

That's the point... it's not resetting. I have had the lock up happen before. The problem is turning the wheel and turning the ignition isn't working.

Yeah no doubt. I got it unlocked I let it sit for like 20 min and finally whatever the problem was settled down. No idea why. Thanks for the help guys. Wish I knew what the difference was. (Does power steering fluid need to "Settle" or something?)

i thas nothing to do with the power steering. it is a lock out in the ignition swtich. sometimes when the wheel gets locked at the extreme travel, it can be hard to get unlocked. the wheel has to be turned past the lock then the key can be turned. it is federally mandated, but is a pia......
