Default Grounding Kit..................Whatever

I put my grounding kit on the other day, was not hoping for more horsepower or any of that bs, but I was hoping for a smoother idle and acceleration. Neither occured. Did anyone else experience disappointment with this? Could I have bolted it in the wrong place?

The grounding kit should add horsepower if installed correctly... I dont know if it is noticable or not from the drivers seat.. maybe on the dyno

Hey and what can you do with the emanage ultimate? Can you reprogram the fuel and timing maps like a technosquare ecu upgrade?

I went with the Z-Extreme Max Ground system. Definitely idles smoother and
throttle response seems somewhat improved. Can't comment too much on hp
gains because I installed along with a Motordyne plenum spacer.

So while I'm getting gains, can't say how much is from grounding system. I've
heard mixed opinions though on hp claims with grounding kits.

Grounding kits are mostly needed in conjunction with racing cams. I hope you at least got colored wires so that it dresses your engine bay... otherwise it's a complete waste of dinars.

Grounding kits dont do crap in terms of HP. They were never apparent in the past to prove any actual HP gains. The scene 6 some years ago... show cars put them in to color-match the interior/exterior... basically a dressup function. Later it turned out to be beneficial to people with an all-out-system enhancing their sound qualities of their ride. Companies recently saw this trend and installed grounding kits + dyno'd the results with the MAX output of "claimed 5whp." Any dyno proving HP's ranging from 1-5 is useless information... I could get 220whp on a stock Z with a bad run... and pull 225 on a good run... depends on the elevation... climate.. type of dyno.. moisture in the atmosphere... etc.. There are too many extraneous variables that affect HP ratings on dynos, thus companies claiming they received that extra 1HP kick from the grounding kit is basically BS. In my opinion, not worth spending that $200 kit unless you were planning to enter into a car show where every "engine dress up" option helps. Functionality wise - if you had a system utilizing 1500+ watts of power. Otherwise - useless

Dude, I added the KP Technologies Window Roll Up module and one other mod at the same time and gained 120rwhp. Really.

Got the Sun Auto Hyperground kit. My Idle was really bumpy after installing my HKS intake, but after installing the wires, idle smoothed out. Don't feel any difference in power though...

I think that you would get more HP from a nismo sticker than you would ever see from a grounding kit. The circut is either grounded or it's not. I bought one and rolled with it for a full day and then promptly took it back and demanded a full refund. I think the reason why products like this seel is mainly do to the plecbo effect. You belive that it can do what they say and you want it to do what they say so in your mind you kinda trick yourself into hearing a smoother idle and perhaps feeling a few more ponies. But the fact of the matter is if it was a good idea the Z would already have it. Nissan has been making cars for a long time and I am sure that if this product had any merit whatsoever not only would they be putting it on the Z from the factory but so would other auto companies.

This one belongs in the same category as the Tornado Fuel Saver…

As seen on T.V.

Everything Nissan and every other big automanufacturer does is driven by the accountants. There are hundreds of items on our cars that could be made with better materials or better designs. Everything is a compromise between cost and increased sales potential. Nobody buys one car over another due to better quality ground wires.

Its a fact of physics that 4 gauge OFC wire will ground better than 18 guage wire used by the factory.

Can you feel the difference - no. Does it work better than the factory wiring - yes. Is it worth the money. That is up to the individual.

An $800 exhaust may gain you 5 HP. A $100 ground kit may gain you 2HP. Which is the better deal?

A ground kit should be looked at as just one more aftermarket mod that improves your cars performance. You have to add a lot of items to a 350Z before you can feel any effect.

I tested the airtemperature of my CAI and found that the factory plastic tube kept the air temperature cooler in the sumer thanthe CAI aluminum tube. But I liked the look and sound of the CAI, so I kept it on the car. Does that make me an idiot for spending the money on a CAI? Maybe.

Agreed. Nismo makes grounding kits and they dont bs on any of thier products. I know that it is a fact of physics 4g=less resistance. Think of it as a water pipe. a 2'' water wipe is going to restrict the flow of water a great deal more than a 6'' line would. (I went to school for automotive specialist and this is the example that they gave us in college during our electrical classes). But ............. wheres my smooth idle I was hoping for, screw the 2hp, thats all I want

I use my weedeater as an UD pulley. An extra 16 hp gained from it.

Default It is all about expectations!

Does a cold air intake really provide 5 - 10 HP? Does an aftermarket exhaust really provide 10 – 15 HP? Does a titanium shift **** perform any better than the original?

However, the intake DOES provide for better breathing, sounds great, and looks cool. The Borla’s sound is second to none and DOES decrease back pressure to the engine! Was the “seat-of-the-pants” dyno noticeable on either of these? Not really but the benefits are obvious, the looks and sounds are great, and it was fun to do.

What is wrong with a little functional “bling?”

The grounding kits benefits have been proven over and over again.

I agree with most people on the horse power claim; on any given day there are way too many variables at play to support a +/- a few HP claim. However, the benefits to the electrical system are there.

Are you going to really feel the difference in idle? I don’t know about you but I can. I have personally taken measurements to prove that the idle does in fact smooth out. Is it earth shattering? NO! Check out the attached file; Blue = w/o grounding kit, Red = with grounding kit.

There have been a lot of great comments in this thread. But this topic has been beaten to death. That is why my original thread has over 600 comments and over 50K views! If you page through my thread you’ll even find a post of an email I received directly from NissaUSA regarding the grounding kit.

You either enjoy modding for the sake of it or you will be very disappointed that every mod’s HP claims are not cumulative and that at the end of the day you don’t have a 1000 HP Z!

Thanks everybody.

Whats the Grounding Kit Install plot for?
X axis = RPM, RPM Average, or mabey time weighted average?
Y = Units of time?

No grind or anything. I'm just curious.
