Cusco LSD Pros & Cons?
Bringing this back from the dead... I don't know how I missed this thread, but this is by far one of the best threads I've seen on this board.
Adding to what has already been said (and having a Quaife in my Honda), if you want reliability, go with the Quaife. If you want more performance and the ability to adjust your locking ratios, go with a clutch type.
Now for the important question, which one?
Guru, can you provide a more detailed technical explanation on the design of the ATS carbon unit? If I remember correctly, a 1.5way LSD partially locks while braking and during acceleration while a 2 way locks completely during braking, and thus is better suited for drifting. Something I do not want is a really loose rear end at the track.
Also, how involved is the install? How much time should I expect to invest in this install (as I plan on trying the install myself if possible). Can somebody pull this info out of the service manual?

You are correct on the 1.5 way and 2 way operation. 2 way is actually made to improve braking performance but guys also use it for drifting. The ATS is available either way, your choice, same price. As for install it should be pretty starightforward. Remove differential housing, swap out and reinstall. I don't have a factory manual though. On the Supras it takes about 3 hours.

With the horrendous weather the Northeast has been having, the Z has barely left the garage. Now I'm waiting on the exhaust to show up so I can install both together. SPI Power Excel gave me a deal if I let them install both at the same time. I should have them both on by the end of the month.

I'm going to really bring it back from the dead just to clarify some points about the Cusco ones.
Type MZ - a bit noiser to engage than the RS, offered in a 1.5 way configuration, and has adjustable lockup points.
Type RS - becuase of the spring design, much quieter and smoother than the MZ. I have personally used this diff before and it works very well. Although offered as a 1.5 way, can be upgraded to a 2 way if so desired, and also has adjustable lockup points.
