Default UR crank pulley impression

Just installed the UR crank pulley in my z.

Purchased from Coz, the install was pretty easy.

It was pretty hard to take the stock crank pulley off the shaft, the bolt was easy to undo with a breaker bar but the pulley was so hard to remove. Used a long screw driver to lever it off, left some mark on my engine block but who cares.

The belt supplied by Coz was bit tricky to install. It came with the two new belts, thin belt was easy but the thicker one was pretty trickey to put it in place because even with the idler set to loose, it was hard to put the belt in place. Maybe tiny bit longer belts, say 1cm or so longer were supplied, it could've been a lot easier.

Now the performance.. i checked 80-120kph time before the install, i got 3.7 seconds with a passenger. After the install, i still got 3.7 seconds with a passenger

But the response has improved amazingly much, step on gas, the power comes in instantly. On throttle response is very much improved.

I never checked the 80-120kph time without the passenger before pulley but after pulley, I got 3.4 sec for 80-120kph without passenger.

I didnt notice any improved performance with the pulley, but then again the 5hp I wouldnt think I'd really feel to begin with. The response is the hard thing to guage but I wanna say I think it was slightly noticeable, but I already have 45k miles on them and it's hard to remember.

I also got a UR pulley installed after picking one up from Coz at Concept Z. Great service BTW.

The shop that installed the pulley (Carv2 Power Addition) had a heck of a time getting my old pulley off. Even with huge breaker bar (I'm talking like 6 ft) the bolt wouldn't budge. They ended up using a chain wrench to remove the pulley.

You are right about the belts that Coz supplied with the pulley. IMO they are way to small. I called Coz and explained this to him during the install. The shop went out and got some Nissan belts that were slightly bigger and they fit perfect. I have had no squeaking issues or squealing at this point.

Performance wise it wasn't something that blew me away after the install. I could tell a differrence in the way the engine rev'd and a tad difference in the acceleration.

Its a good mod for the money IMO.

I got mine from...well I don't remember where, but I still had a big problem getting the stocker off and getting the supplied Nissan belts on (and I had a GOOD mechanic doing it with me)

the UR pulley is one of the better mods for your money IMO. i had mine installed last summer w/o any problems or complications. i watched the installation at the shop and it took the mechanic about an hour to do...he had the radiator removed....which was proven unneccessary.... cuz there was no need to use a puller to pull the pulley out....stock pulley was removed just by loosening the bolt. The two belt that were supplied by Stillen fit perfectly size wise. Throttle response was much improved.

DIY.......all your gonna need is a breaker bar with a short 19mm socket to loosen that bolt..... just follow the instructions from UR.It was that simple.

When installing the UR pulleys (set) does the radiator have to be removed? or there's just enough room without removing anything in the engine to have those installed?

i would pull the fans and thats it. you can have those out in no time. then a 19mm and breaker bar and a pipe to get more leaverage. mine came off with just a little prying and that was it. put the trans in 5th or 6th and have a friend hold the brakes and the bolt should loosen pretty easily.

you dont need to take anything off the car, only thing that has to come off is the cover underneath your engine bay.

+1 Its a tight fit, but enough room for a 1" wrench 19mm socket and a breaker bar (used a heavy pipe)! The most important step for me was putting it on 6th gear and having someone stepping on the break pedal.
