How many hours does it take to install the pulleys?

A mechanic here said that they would have to remove the alternator and would take them 4 hours. $50/hour so thats $200 just to install the pulleys.

If you have the kit (includes the Alt pulley) then yes. You dont have to completly remove the alternator out of the car but you do remove all the bolts holding the Alt up so that you bring down the Alt (pulley facing the floor) and use an impact gun to remove the pulley. It is nearly impossible to remove the Alt pulley without the impact gun. It is wise to remove the oil filter so that the installer has ease when moving the Alt, so dont be surprise that the oil is drained and filled.

All other pulley's dont require additional removing of anything other than belts. Took me the whole weekend (10 hrs total) to figure out how to remove that darn Alternator pulley. Crank pulley took me 1/2 hr.

It will take me 1.5 - 2 hrs to do the job now. $200 seems a bit much, price shop! You should expect to pay $120 - $180 for the job.

1.5 hrs tops taking your time(also let crank snout cool for a while before doing the crank pully install,or the UD pully will not want to slip on easily)

1.drive car on ramps,leave in 6th gear,set ebrake
2.take off engine cover(top)
3.remove lower splash shield
4.smoke a cig if you are a smoker!
5.19mm socket, breaker bar and extention pipe.
6.break crank bolt loose(very tight so don't be scared to use some ***)
7.loosen belt tensioners (there is 2 first slightly loosen the nut in the center of the tensioner pullysthn loosen tension bolts.I say slightly loosen the tensioner center nut so when you are reinstalling belts the tensioner pully does not wobble)
8.Remove crank pully bolt, and from under car wiggle and push/pull stock pully off.
9.install a thin coat of antisieze to inner bore of UD pully
10.install UD pully by hand(this is were letting motor/crank snout cool comes into play)
11.reinstall crank bolt(torque info will be supplied with pully)
12.reinstall belts, etc. Done very simple install barely get dirty if you lay on a blanket.

one thing to note.. do not put the underneath cover because the belts will stretch a bit and become loose.. you will want to tighten it up again say after 3 or 4 days, so better leave it off for a few days..

Bringing this thread back! The crank pulley nut is not reverse threaded, correct? If you are standing at the front of the car looking at the car, I need to be turning the ratchet left to loosen, right? I tried earlier with it in 6th and my wife stepping on the brakes and managed to break my ratchet! I was only using a 3/8" because that was the only one my breaker bar would fit over.
