It depends on what you do...

I have had some people purchase a complete new 3.5 rear end and then build up the 3.7 gear set into it...

it really depends on what you have to build the gear into... and how much you will need to get it to work.. if you need to replace the bearings, etc..

Ok, So I can't Re-Use my 3.3 Pumpkin, I have to buy a 3.5 pumpkin and then install the 3.7 Set?

Do you offer a pumpkin with the 3.7 ready to go?

you can use your 3.3 pumpkin, will just have to get a 3.5 VLSD or LSD...

What will that run me? I am just trying to get an idea of what a Turn-Key package would be... I'm not much of a mechanic myself, but I have a shop that can do anything at a reasonable price. Am I going to be our $500 in parts or $1000?

I thought the 5AT Roadster Came with VLSD

Jason,

For a 5AT with FI (SC) and especially interested in 1/4 mile times, taking into account track is really bad tractionwise, would you recommend going up to 3.5 or actually down ?

Thanks

Danny

You are looking at over $500 in parts for just the gear set / bearings / seals / alone...

To get a complete new 3.5 final drive assembly will be around $1350 shipped...

I do not have any cores so the only way I can do an assembled 3.7 gear set is if you purchase the 3.5 complete rear end and then go from there...

At Close to $2000 in Parts there is no Way I would ever do this.. Just not worth the cost. I was hoping for a sub $1K Solution...

the best thing for you to do, is find a used rear end from a 6mt fron a junk yard, buy the gear set, and paysomeone locally...

your looking at $100 in shipping alone....

What all did it take to make the conversion for your Customer? How much did it cost and how do they like it?

It takes the same exact parts to put the 3.7 gear set as a 3.9 gear set...

the only difference is you pay less for the 3.7 gear set then the 3.9...

If you have an AUTO pumpkin with a 3.3 gear set, you need:

LSD - could be VLSD or LSD - as long as it works with the 3.5, it will work with the 3.7, or 3.9 gear sets...

Output Shafts - the 3.3 and 3.5 has different output shafts... check with yoru LSD becuase some require other output shafts... NISMO LSD includes output shafts...

Pinion Nut
Front Pinion Bearing
Pinion Spacer Housing
Rear Pinion Bearing
Differential Side Seals (NISMO LSD Includes)
Differential Side Bearings (NISMO LSD Includes)

It is recommended to change all of the above... Some gear shops will re-use the bearings but if it is noisy, most likely it is from the used bearings...

You will also need adjust shims, you will not know what size is needed until you are putting the rear end back together...

3.3 to 3.5 gear change 6.7% decrese in speed per gear
3.3 to 3.7 gear change 10.8% decrease in speed per gear
3.3 to 3.9 gear change 15.9% decrease in speed per gear

it will be like going on the freeway in 4th gear crusing at 80mph rather then being in 5th...
