If i were to make a full race bread car i'd stick in a sr20det personally. The torque is flatter and it revs MUCH higher. I know about 5 sr20 that rev to 10K easily just in my area. And thats on just a few upgrades, less than 8K in parts on top of engine cost. Thats nothing if ur on a race budget. They're also lighter and much better balanced and smoother than a V-6 or V8. Inline is the way to go.

Even if you make 320hp at the wheel, you've caught up to an entry level supercharger system on power, and lighter than a boosted VQ would be, but a SR would make that without flinching and have plenty of room for more with a substantial weight reduction.
Now, having said that, I say go for it, and as i posted in Richie's other thread, rev the **** out of this motor and let us all know how it sounds. The respect for putting down over 300whp NA would probably be worth it, and the sound to die for at a track as it goes screaming by. I give Richie and anyone else (Rickdogg?) who tries this great respect, and I know there have been plenty of SR threads already, but I just wonder why no one is really interested in an SR swap for these power levels. I suppose the thought of a four banger turns people off, but an SR revving to 9K with light boost sounds like a pissed off 'Busa and makes great power. It makes more sense to me than an all NA VQ from a performance standpoint, unless drag racing is what you live for.. then you might as well build and boost our big V6.
Speedracer, the money is the thing, as people have said. NA is expensive, and swaps are discouraging. FI is easier and retains a sense of factory engineering I suppose. Food for thought.

I have a friend that can do the SR swap for me, but I just don't want an SR20. Too much pain for so little when a VQ is a great platform to work with.

An example of a dyno queen that cannot do anything at the track. Drag racing would be interesting though with some slicks

marluci7:

With 8000rpm, you might want to consider changing to Ferrea valvetrain kit instead of just using JWT valve springs... my engine was all fine with 7400rpm on Nismo strenghten springs (similar to JWT ones)... until I clicked my valves on the dyno machine @ 7600rpm when we set the rev limiter higher in the motec computer... so I have been there and done that, just an advice so you don't need to try that yourself!

cheers and good luck!

vq trq will only 'own' sr trq if you can put it down to the ground. I wouldn't want to race on a track w/ a trq curve thats anything but flat. You have like 5K rpm of workable RPM on sr20 while you have about 3.5k on VQ's, on TT setup. Supercharged VQ is a good alternative.

Marluci does the car feel like its going to fall apart at such high RPM's? I've never sat in a V6 going past 6500rpm . Inlines and rotary however, they're smooth as eff even at 9k.

Shoot, keep us all posted! Can't wait to see how rediculous the power on a fully built TT VQ will be at 8000rpm, not to mention all that was involved in the build.

marluci7:

What valvetrain set are you using currently? Ferrea too? If so, where do you order yours?

Thanks!

I know you've picked it up by Monday the 30th, man

I have already heard a few crazy stories from Greg. I'm not saying anything, that's for you. But it sounds absolutely scary

Respect

turbo is so much more worth it, ride in turbo cars and you'll see the difference in power.. turbo makes more torque

stupid cheap *** oil change place f-ed up my t25 tried to swap a t28 onto it. ran but sounded wrong. figured out an oil line wasn't tight enough. it's been stripped now so no more sr.

The engine has stock displacement, higher CR, custom cams, valves, pistons, headwork, lower intake manifold collector, intake, headers, stock catalyzers, cat back exhaust and a custom reflash of the stock ECU incl. 7100 rpm rev limit.

Yes my friend, but did you know that the conversion factor is only 0,98632. So 319 wps equal pretty much 315 whp - big difference, huh?
