What's the point of this engine swap? If you spent the same amount of money on a VQ you would make just as much power or more. Plus you will never get the torque from an RB26 like you do in a VQ.
An RB will also f'up the weight balance of the Z. Its going to put weight in front of the front axle and that iron block motor probably weighs more than the VQ.

but why?!?! I guess its cool and all but the VQ is a great motor built. Me personally i have two RB motors sitting from a past 240sx swap I was going to do but would never ever consider this for a 350z. VQ is stout built. Have you even driven a 600hp car? you will spend soo much more getting that RB running and then more to get it built and ready for power

Hey good luck with it and it should be cool. But i just dont see the point of swapping a bigger motor for a smaller motor. The rb26tt is a beast but its a beast becouse its also been out for years and everything is known about it. I think the VQ is going to exceed the power levels of those engine's u just have to give it time. And also we have seen yet 100hp plus Z's becouse we cant fir big turbo's but as soon as someone figures it out we will see huge number.
Good luck on it hope it comes out good.

IIRC those guys have gone to a VQ35 in their car. I saw a drag Z at PRI in Orlando a few weeks ago, VQ powered twin turbo, built/sleeved block, ferrea valvetrain, they said STOCK high rev cams! they rev to 9grand on it, and it's got a ratchet shifter auto........they make adapter plates for turbo 400 trannies and the like.

6,4 to 400mm with a VQ isnt a good A?or 4300cc or the stock 3500cc with bigger valves than the RB????and less weight........tstststs come on grow up and boxer is boxer face it,and again, Germans lern to wear water to their motors on the early 90....GT2 uses bigger turbos than the Greddy tt or APS and greddy gives more power...AM i clear?do i say something wrong? And for the history my previus car was VWgroup with 500bhp on a chassis smaller than POLO(lupo was) so about my previous group a lot

The ORC 350z out of japan has this setup. It's a badass car, I think its pushing 600hp. It has been to the U.S. several times for D1.
Cons: The RB is a longer and heavier engine than the VQ. It will put more weight over the front axle and upset the cars handleing. Getting parts is not as simple as going to your local nissan dealer. The cost of building a VQ to safely handle high HP (500+) will cost about the same as putting a RB in the Z and giving it the same HP safely.(probalbly less with a VQ) Junkyard VQs are available with low mileage(approx. 30k) for about 2 grand, not bad.
Pros: 400hp can be made safely on stock internals. Yes, it can be made into a 1000hp monster. A much smaller lighter diff can be used. The RB is one of the best sounding engines in the world, in my opinion. Much more has been done to the RB over the years, the VQ is still a new engine and people are still learning from their mistakes.
It is a really awesome combination, the 350Z, a true sportscar with the heart of it's big brother, the skyline. Sounds like fun, but just over complicated for my taste.

Not being a d!ck, but if you're asking about motor mounts this early in the game I think you'll have a VERY long hard road to travel once you get into this.

here's some more math for the equation........ There is an importer somewhere in Flordia I've heard of and even though Motorex is no more there is another importer in cali. When I checked Motorex was selling r33s for around 40k fully legal. New Z=34,000 rb=4,000 install and go fast goodies= platinum grill. I love that your tring something unique and I know things can be real tempting especially if you've seen the signal G w/ an RB26 but, If you really want to be different buy a skyline. Just think if you sold your car and the rb you'd be set, plus since you'd be driving from the right side of a skyline you could deliver mail to help pay for it..... there's no negitive here

ps or you could keep the Z and put fairlady badges on it. There's been some sweet engines to come out of the JDM market, I think sometimes people for get were the VQ came from (**** eating smerk appears)
