If you bore out your engine from 3.5 to 3.8 you'll need new pistons, oil rings, cylinder sleeves, etc. I imagine that's what the kit consists of.

Exactly.

I thought I read somewhere that the VQ35 is just a bored out VQ30, though?? Is that true?

If that's the case, there's only so much you can bore a given engine.

If not ... woohoo!

From the posts that I have read, it seems like a new ECU must be part of any improvement. As for cylinder heads, Extrude Home usually can work wonders with any stock head or lower intake manifold and can be done "at home".

i agree, sounds like a stroker kit. there arent any "bore" kits that i've heard of, since its just a complete rebuild of the shortblock.

Being that the VQ35 is already a much bored out version of another engine it seems more likely that the kit consists of a stroker crank, and maybe different rods. This will give more a little more HP (due to more displacement) and quite a bit more torque (from the larger stroke). The torque curve may even move substantially lower in the rev-band. I'm not sure this is an ideal mod for a sports car, unless the new crank is lighter than stock, because the redline may end up being a little lower, with a larger, heavier crank. Now if you knife-edge this new crank and then balance the whole assembly, and take any extra weight off the flywheel while you're at it and you may have something. Gee, can you tell I'm a HP nut???

teh215, please tell me you were kidding in your post about extrude hoNe. The machine they use costs several hundred thousand dollars, and probably would not fit in your home. C'mon now some newbie prolly took that seriously.

Its not "a bored out version" per say, it just has a larger bore. The cylinder walls of a VQ35 are as thick as a VQ30. Either way you cant bore a VQ more than 0.020" over per the FSM, and thats a trivial ammount. My bet is a stroker crank. Yummy, a 3.8L SC 4th gen Maxima

VQRacer please share some info if you have details!

Hmmm, this kit in a VQ35 shortblock with VQ30 heads, MEVI, JWT Cams and JWT ECU could make for a very interesting motor swap for the maxima... 350hp = not too shabby

Why not just a VQ30DETT with an upgraded turbo kit?

I wonder what is the difference in Combustion Chamber CC and valve sizes with the VQ engines. If the VQ30 heads bolt on to the VQ35 short block and the valve sizes are the same, were talking some noticeable cylinder compression increases and power increases. I wonder if the stock ECU wouldn't mind if you bolt on a pair of VQ30 heads?

Running low compression pistons in the 35 short block would still yield about an 11:1 compression due to the 30 heads. My guess is that you'd get more than 350 HP. Maybe closer to 400. A high compression stroker 350Z with cams is sure to gain more than 60 horses. Thats essentially what you'd have. I definately agree though. Sounds very interesting.

David.

so has anyone confirmed or tried swapping in the VQ30 head onto a vq35 block? Does the head flow nearly as well as the vq35 head? How about getting the vq30 head ported and polished, then would it flow better than the vq35 head?
