vdc still works - has nothing to do with gearing

my cruise control still works, but for some reason others say it doesn't

YES both should still work, the car as i believe has a speed based cruise control and will only hold CC up to 90 mph the only difference is the rpms at each given speed... So maybe try to reset the ecu and relearn the Throttle? See if that helps.

I've put on over 15k miles with my 350evo 3.9 gears with no problems - VDC & cruise both fine & always have. I do change rear gear oil twice a year.... maybe a little overkill there, but it's all good

so what exactly are the "other install parts" people keep talking about. If i ordered the 3.9 FD for my car it comes with the ring and pinion and i have to buy something else also? Hope i don't sound dumb for asking this.

Pinion nut, pinion crush sleeve, pinion oil seal, and shims.

Some people will also choose to replace the bearings and bolts in there as well.

Now if you want to get up to 170+ you need FI, and if you go FI then the 3.9 gearing would probably not be a good idea on the car...you would be better off with the stock final drive or the auto one.
Can anyone post the ecuation on these calculations so that people can understand were the numbers come from? That way we can make desicions for ourselves based on what we want out of our vehicle.

MPH = engine speed / transmission ratio / wheel rotations per mile * 60

MPH = RPM / tran gear ratio / fd ratio / ( 5280 / ( wheel diam " * pi / 12 ) ) * 60

123.38 mph = 6000 rpm / 1.000 {5th gear} / 3.538 {stock FD} / (5280 / (26.67" * 3.14159 / 12 )) * 60

AAM is doing mine with a Quaife. So I can't help you on the price portion. If you're going to do the gears, you might as well take advantage of having the unit in pieces and put in a better differential if you don't have one already.

Yeah, that's why I was doing the

It'll be fine, we came to an agreement on all the terms before even ordering a single part. I have no doubt in their technicians' ability to do the work, its more a matter of I'm the guinea pig for determining how long the job will take so they can estimate the job as accurately as possible for future customers.

Good to know! Its an expensive proposition to do both the FD and differential at the same time, but its well worth it in the long run becase you save a good chunk of cash in install costs because you're not pulling the pumpkin and completely rebuilding your rear-end twice. That's why I opted to do it all in one shot.

ATS LSD won't work with the 3.9 (or 3.3), but the great news is they do have a fix. And that fix is to use the 3.5 final drive ....yeah it said so right on their site

Someone did manage to get the 3.9 to work with the ATS LSD though after a lot of frusturating labor and $

Interesting. I wonder what it is about their diff that makes it incompatible with the 3.9. So far they don't seem to be having any issues with the 3.9 and Quaife on my install. Last update I received was they were still shimming the assembly. Frank at AAM is a perfectionist, it was 1 mm off and he wanted it exact. I'm ok with that.

Then again, I got the Nismo 3.9 since we were having clearance issues with the 350EVO one. Who knows if that makes a difference?

1mm is alot for a diff! especially for a shim!

I am not familiar with the Nismo 3.9FD... do you have any more info on it!

my friend is "ALL" I want ever nismo part 'idis' so that would be a great mod for his PPW!
