Default My Nismo Fly Wheel Review

I recently installed a Nismo Flywheel from Performance Nissan (mynismo.com) with a new clutch assembly. The job took about 4 hours, going a relaxing pace. People have talked about chatter with the Nismo flywheel, but I did realize any chatter. The midrange RPM increase is very noticeable, still working on the break-in, 250 miles so far. I would highly recommend this bolt on!

Default Nismo

I'm now running a new Nissan stock clutch and clutch cover, long story. I purchased my Nismo parts from mynismo.com. Great Services and part were in stock.

Peace,
Rob

Four hours seems fast to replace a flywheel/clutch... Then again, I've never done it on a Z. Is it really that easy to drop the tranny?

I think RWD are the easiest vs FWD and AWD

Default about that

The dealer quoted me 6 hours for the job. I would say with a lift, HD trans jack and air tools the job should not take more than 4 hours. The Z trans. is HUGE!!!!

later,
rob

FYI - The Nismo Flywheel is actually manufactured by a company called Exedy Clutch (formally Daikin Clutch). They actually do the stock clutch/flywheel on the 350Z and 95% of Japanese market vehicles.

We just so happen to have the Exedy Flywheels on special now, along with the Stage 2 clutch -> HERE

Exedy not only supplies Nissan and Nismo - But STI, RalliArt, MazdaSpeed and every other factory backed race team!

Great! Glad you like the flywheel... There is no real break in with that set up...

The Exedy Flywheel is lighter then the NISMO,

The exedy flywheel is steel, the NISMO is aluminum...

Awesome... Yeah, everytime I go to the nissan dealer and ask for parts, I always say, "You have to price match Performance Nissan" and just mentioning Performance Nissan to the local dealers here gets them scared of me. They know I ain't messin' around when I say "Performance Nissan can..."
Thanks, Performance Nissan, for setting the standard for other dealers.

Wow - That's Strange... According to the Japanese Site (http://www.nismo.co.jp/ -> Products -> パーツディレクトリ -> Z33 -> Powertrain)

The translated text about their flywheel reads (pardon the Engrish)

Lightweight flywheel 12310-RSZ30 P/C (1) 47,250 Yen *
The combined type which unify the flywheel and the drive plate, utilize the respective quality & the chrome molybdenum steel which (the SCM440H material) make * "the NISMO" logographic entering & the for M/C front car The lightweight flywheel of the signal plate attachment which is indispensable to the ignition system VTC drive system. The rotary response at the time of ON/OFF of the accelerator it improves, raises also acceleration efficiency.

Note they refer to the Flywheel as being "Chrome Molybendeum Steel" - Which is IDENTICAL to the Exedy Flywheel which is made out of - you guessed it - Chrome-Moly Steel. Same part, no doubt.

Additionally if you look at the first clutch featured on the site (P/N 3002A-RSZ30) that is clearly an Exedy clutch.

I have no reason to lie - NISMO = Exedy.

Just pulled the NISMO Flywheel off our shelf...

There it is in the middle... stamped Exedy...

Still weights 23lbs...

I have to be honest, I never really speant much time on finding who makes and what about the NISMO flywheel, I remember reading aluminum somewhere, but guess it was wrong...

The 5lbs weight reduction will do that... but a total 16lbs flywheel & clutch assembly will really make the car responsive

Yeah - I don't think NISMO would *ever* go for an allyo flywheel... just doesn't have the logevity/performance that Chrome-Moly does.

Anyhow, I agress shedding 5lbs of rotating mass will REALLY make a car go!
