Default Quaife Nightmare

I'm sure you all are aware of the original problem that came with the first batch of Quaifes regarding the fitment kit. So after having the Quaife sitting in my closet for about 5 months, I finally have it installed last week. As if the original problems weren't enough, turns out that the spider gear in my particular unit was installed in the reverse position from the factory. This caused one stub axle to have play and move around thus causing the ABS/VDC OFF/SLIP lights to be on permanently. Because of this I was without my car for 4 days and had to rent a car for 4 days. Luckily Rob @ Z Car Garage was nice enough to throw on a stock rear end he had laying around for me so I can have my car back while the Quaife thing is being resolved. I've talked to someone at Quaife USA and they are going to ship a brand new unit to Z Car Garage and should be reimbursing me for all the extra labor the faulty unit caused. Hopefully Quaife does the right thing and comes through on this. Tired of this crap. Sorry, had to vent.

Feelin your pain brotha..... feelin your pain. Makes you not want to touch your car again. For whatever reason nothing simply bolts in. Even the simple bolt in parts don't bolt in.

D2 Racing is one of them... Avoid them at all costs. I had to send them measurments so they could make their shocks work in the 350Z. What they sent me show's me they did zero research. The coilovers didn't fit. 7 months later I'm still waiting for parts from them.... I guess at this point I'll never see the parts. They always say... Oh... your parts will be on the next boat over. Uhhhmmmmm.... No they won't.

Good Lord! What is going on over at Quaife? This blows my mind. Sorry about your troubles, there. It'll be worth the wait, but the aggravation makes it close... Hang in there.

Yeah, the sad thing is I know Quaife makes quality products and that no company is defect free. It's just too bad I've experienced one too many problems at this point. I guess Quaife is still small enough of a company where R&D and QA sometimes slips through the cracks. Oh well, hopefully this is the last problem and I can enjoy my unit when it comes time for the track. And hopefully they won't give me trouble about reimbursing me for all the extra labor costs. Just one more thing you Quaife owners or potential owners should keep in mind.

I have my Quaife LSD still waiting to be installed. I hope I don't run into any problems. I will let you all know either way. Hopefully in the next week or 2.

good luck with that mess.

however i applaud quaife for reimbursing you on the labor to reinstall the parts. most if not all other companies would make u pay for reinstalling the piece after u send it to them to be fixed.

Well they haven't reimbursed me or confirmed that they will. It's still an ongoing issue right now. I mentioned reimbursement to the person at Quaife and they said it's a possibility assuming the original diff was assembled incorrectly from the factory. We'll see what happens. I do applaud them however of taking care of the problem in quick fashion by sending out another unit before they even get the defective one back.

Hmm... Now this is making me wonder if that is what is going on with my Z. My ABS and Brake light comes on after driving for about 20 seconds, and at that same second my speedometer decides to start working. Was your problem noticeable as far as driving quality? I, too, am one of the original people with the fitment issues....

I haven't had a chance to drive the car yet. My installer Rob @ Z Car Garage did the test driving before the problem showed up. I'd check and double check the other obvious causes of the problem first like unplugged wheel sensor, bad wheel sensor, pinched sensor wire, etc. You'd probably have to take the Quaife off and inspect it to figure the spider gear was reversed. Not a quick check.

yeah, i think it's a sensor since the performance of the quaife has been outstanding.

Dklau33, I think you should wait until Quaife confirms there was a defect, before formally indicting, and convicting them on the boards. They have been pretty stand-up, when issues pop up. But aside from the initial fitment issues, you are the first one to experience a fitment/defect problem.

It could be something as simple as a bent OEM snap ring on re-install (seen this many many times before)...its all speculation at this point until Quiafe examines and confirms the issue.

All I know is that you will love the Diff once its properly installed.

Sharif, my intention here wasn't to bad mouth Quaife. I don't believe any of my posts explicitly bash the company but if I have please point it out to me. Sometimes facts and emotions get a little blurred so I hope no one thinks I'm bashing Quaife. I do understand that there is no such thing as a company with 0 defects. I even commended them for trying to take care of the situation in a timely manner. I'm just trying to express my situation and my frustration with said situation here.

I don't think the reversed spider gear problem "theory" is pure speculation though. The tech at Z Car Garage did inspect the unit. But then again it's just one side of the story so I'll reserve judgement for now and wait for Quaife's confirmation before coming to a conclusion.

And I'm sure you are right. I know the diff will deliver as promised. This is the sole reason I decided to stick with it instead of accepting the full refund that was offered months ago.

Thats good to hear. The important thing is that Quiafe will correct the issue, if one exists. I look forward to hearing the resolution.

To my knowledge, Quaife is one of the only aftermarket parts companies to offer a lifetime warranty on their diffs, EVEN if used in a competive racing environment.

And once its all sorted to your satisfaction, I am sure you will post a "Quaife Dream" thread.

I'm having a similar problem with Kaaz right now; my lsd has supposedly been in customs for 5 weeks now. If there is no news tomarrow my plan was to cancel the order and go for a quaife so I am looking forward to hearing that afformentioned "quaife dream story."
good luck.
